Professor Fahad Khan's research lab focuses on exploring natural compounds and their mechanisms in cancer therapy, with an emphasis on plant-derived molecules such as rutin, carvacrol, and garlic metabolites. The lab investigates their anticancer, anti-proliferative, and pro-apoptotic effects in various cancer types, particularly prostate cancer, while also examining the role of signaling pathways like PDGF/PDGFR and immune checkpoints in tumor progression. Additionally, the lab contributes to understanding rare clinical phenomena like Purple Urine Bag Syndrome, highlighting its translational and clinical relevance. The overarching goal is to develop effective, low-toxicity therapeutic strategies derived from natural sources to overcome drug resistance and improve patient outcomes.

Numerous cancers express platelet-derived growth factors (PDGFs) and PDGF receptors (PDGFRs). By directly stimulating tumour cells in an autocrine manner or by stimulating tumour stromal cells in a paracrine manner, the platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)/platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR) pathway is crucial in the growth and spread of several cancers. To combat hypoxia in the tumour microenvironment, it encourages angiogenesis. A growing body of experimental data shows that PDGFs
Numerous research reports have witnessed dramatic advancements in cancer therapeutic approaches through immunotherapy. Blocking immunological checkpoint pathways (mechanisms employed by malignant cells to disguise themselves as normal human body components) has emerged as a viable strategy for developing anticancer immunity. Through the development of effective immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in multiple carcinomas, advances in cancer immunity have expedited a major breakthrough in cancer th
Purple urine bag syndrome (PUBS) is a unique disease entity characterized by an alarming purple discoloration of the urine secondary to recurrent urinary tract infections with indigo- and indirubin-producing bacteria. It is usually associated with prolonged urinary catheterization and chronic debilitated states. We hereby present a concise review of this rare phenomenon with historic perspectives, epidemiology, emphasizing on current concepts of etiology, pathogenesis, relevant clinical associat
Cancer is a complex ailment orchestrated by numerous intrinsic and extrinsic pathways. Recent research has displayed a deep interest in developing plant-based cancer therapeutics for better management of the disease and limited side effects. A wide range of plant-derived compounds have been reported for their anticancer potential in the quest of finding an effective therapeutic approach. Rutin (vitamin P) is a low-molecular weight flavonoid glycoside (polyphenolic compound), abundantly present i
Carvacrol, a major monoterpenoid phenol from Origanum and Thymus species, has been shown to exhibit antiproliferative and anticancer properties in a few recent studies. Nevertheless, detailed mechanism of the action of this compound in prostate cancer has not been elucidated yet. Therefore, in the current study, we examined the anticancer activity and mechanism of the action of carvacrol against human prostate cancer cells. It was found that the treatment of DU145 cells with carvacrol decreased
Garlic (<i>Allium sativum</i> L.) possesses numerous pharmacological potential, including antibacterial, antiarthritic, antithrombotic, anticancer, hypoglycemic, and hypolipidemic effects. The anti-cancer action of garlic is likely the best researched of the many advantageous pharmacological effects, and its use offers significant protection against the risk of developing cancer. A few active metabolites of garlic have been reported to be essential in the destruction of malignant cells due to th
Apitherapy (using bee products) has gained broad recognition in cancer therapeutics globally. Honeybee venom has a broad range of biological potential, and its utilization is rapidly emerging in apitherapy. Bee products have significant potential to strengthen the immune system and improve human health. Thus, this review is targeted toward recapitulating the chemo-preventive potential of melittin (MEL), which constitutes a substantial portion of honeybee venom. Honeybee venom (apitoxin) is produ
Sustainable agriculture is crucial for stimulating both developing and developed countries. Agriculture needs modernization and innovation to meet the increasing demands of food for the growing global population and to maintain environmental sustainability simultaneously. Nanotechnology has gained wider attention in food safety improvement and environment protection by augmenting the efficacy of agricultural inputs and giving potent solutions to agricultural issues for improving food security an
Thus, our previous and current findings have established the strong potential of carvacrol as a chemopreventive agent against androgen-independent human prostate cancer cells.
Thus, our study is envisaged to open up interests for elucidating Rutin as an anticancerous agent against cervical cancer.
The inadequacy of effective treatment approaches for prostate cancer enlightens the crucial necessity for the search and emergence of novel and multitasking anticancer substances. Several experimental studies suggested the role of natural compounds in prostate cancer growth inhibition by Hedgehog signaling modulation. In the current study, we suggested the anticancer and apoptosis inducing effects of Moringa oleifera (M. oleifera) were linked to downregulation of Hedgehog pathway in PC-3 prostat
Natural dietary molecules such as flavonoids have been recognized for their immense potential in cancer therapeutics with several health benefits. <i>Hes</i>-<i>1</i> and <i>Notch</i>-<i>1</i> overexpression has been associated with the progression of cervical cancer. However, the apoptosis-inducing potential of one such potent flavanol against these two key components of the Notch signaling pathway in cervical cancer has not been elucidated to date. Therefore, in this study, we performed severa
Over the recent few years rutin has gained wider attention in exhibiting inhibitory potential against several oncotargets for inducing apoptotic and antiproliferative activity in several human cancer cells. Several deregulated signaling pathways are implicated in cancer pathogenesis. Therefore we have inclined our research towards exploring the anticancerous efficacy of a very potent phytocompound for modulating the incontinent expression of these two crucial E6 and E7 oncogenes. Further, inhibi
Plant flavonoids have been emerged as a potent anticancerous agent by exhibiting significant growth inhibitory potential and apoptotic induction in several carcinomas via targeting several oncoproteins. However, inverse association of hesperidin with Jab1 oncoprotein in cervical cancer has rarely been reported. Thus, we have intended our research study towards establishing this unexplored inverse correlation of hesperidin with Jab1 which could further prevent cervical cancer progression. Our res
