Professor Fumie Magata's research lab focuses on reproductive physiology and pathology in dairy cattle, with a central emphasis on the impact of bacterial endotoxins—particularly lipopolysaccharide (LPS)—on ovarian function and fertility. The lab investigates how LPS from postpartum uterine infections disrupts steroidogenesis in bovine theca and granulosa cells, leading to follicular atresia and reduced oocyte quality. They also explore molecular mechanisms underlying persistent corpus luteum formation and apply advanced techniques such as time-lapse monitoring and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) to improve in vitro embryo production and selection in aging dairy cows.
