Professor Gi-Hyoug Cho's research lab specializes in urban transportation behavior, with a focus on the interplay between built environments, travel behavior, and sustainable mobility. The lab investigates how regional and neighborhood-scale environmental factors influence physical activity and active transportation, particularly walking and bike-sharing, using advanced data collection methods such as GPS and agent-based simulation models. A key research direction involves modeling emergency evacuations following large-scale chemical accidents, integrating transportation and dispersion modeling for risk assessment. While travel diaries are widely used to investigate walking behavior, the emergence of portable GPS units provides an innovative approach to characterizing walking behavior. This study compares the number and duration of daily walking trips reported in travel diaries with data extracted from a portable GPS unit and identified as the same walking trips.
