Professor Hak-Joon Kim's research lab focuses on interdisciplinary studies at the intersection of educational technology, cognitive science, and health informatics. The lab investigates how digital media and online platforms influence learning outcomes, cognitive function, and information behavior across diverse age groups, particularly adolescents and older adults. It also explores advanced signal processing techniques for non-destructive testing in engineering applications, such as ultrasonic inspection of critical infrastructure. The lab combines qualitative, quantitative, and computational methods to address real-world challenges in education, aging, and industrial safety.

The primary purpose of the study was to identify motivations for hyperlinking in scholarly electronic articles. By using a small number of Gaussian basis functions, one can synthesize the wave fields radiated from planar and focused piston transducers in the form of a superposition of Gaussian beams. Since Gaussian beams can be transmitted through complex geometries and media, such multi-Gaussian beam models have become powerful simulation tools. In previous studies the basis function expansion coefficients of multi-Gaussian beam models have been obtained by both spatial domain and k-space domain methods.
