Professor Hee Jae Huh's research lab specializes in molecular diagnostics and antimicrobial resistance in non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), with a focus on developing and evaluating rapid molecular assays for accurate species identification and drug resistance detection. The lab investigates genetic markers associated with resistance to key anti-mycobacterial drugs such as clarithromycin and amikacin, particularly in *Mycobacterium avium* complex and *M. abscessus* subspecies. Their work bridges clinical microbiology and molecular genetics to improve patient management through timely and precise diagnostic tools. The lab also contributes to the standardization of molecular testing methods for NTM infections.

We evaluated the GenoType NTM-DR (NTM-DR) line probe assay for identifying <i>Mycobacterium avium</i> complex (MAC) species and <i>Mycobacterium abscessus</i> subspecies and for determining clarithromycin and amikacin resistance. Thirty-eight reference strains and 145 clinical isolates (58 MAC and 87 <i>M. abscessus</i> isolates), including 54 clarithromycin- and/or amikacin-resistant strains, were involved.
