Professor HJ Lee's research lab focuses on neurotrophic mechanisms in the hippocampal formation, particularly the trophic interactions between the septal cholinergic system and hippocampal neurons. The lab employs primary neuronal cell cultures and immortalized cell lines to study neuronal differentiation, electrophysiological properties, and the role of neurotrophic factors such as nerve growth factor (NGF). Additionally, the lab investigates geotechnical properties of submarine sediments, emphasizing laboratory testing methods and shear strength evaluation with an emphasis on minimizing sampling disturbance and improving test accuracy. This dual focus spans neuroscience and marine geomechanics, reflecting interdisciplinary approaches to biological and environmental systems.
