Professor Hyun Jung Kim's research lab specializes in translational biomedical research with a focus on gastrointestinal diseases, particularly inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and the development of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for neurological and reproductive disorders. The lab investigates the pathophysiological differences in IBD across ethnic populations, explores novel nerve block techniques to manage post-herpetic neuralgia, and develops advanced nanomaterials for anion sensing. Additionally, the lab contributes to evidence-based urology through systematic reviews on subclinical varicocele and ovarian mass diagnostics.
Figures are computed from collected data and may differ slightly.
Incidence of IBD found in our study is the highest in East Asia. Lower bowel resection rates and higher survival compared to those of Western nations suggest that the natural course of IBD may be different between East Asia and the West.
Applying nerve blocks during the acute phase of the herpes zoster shortens the duration of zoster-related pain, and somatic blocks (including paravertebral and repeated/continuous epidural blocks) are recommended to prevent PHN. In future studies, consensus-based PHN definitions, clinical cutoff points that define successful treatment outcomes and standardized outcome-assessment tools will be needed.
For CN(-) recognition, a series of bisindolyl compounds 1-3 were prepared, and their chromodosimetric color changes toward anions were investigated. Nucleophilic addition of the cyanide ion to the meso position of the bisindolyl group gave rise to breaking of the double bond conjugation, thereby inducing spectroscopic changes in the compound. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles 3 also gave color changes from deep orange to yellow in response to the cyanide ion.
Recent meta-analysis by the Cochrane collaboration concluded that treatment of varicocele may improve an infertile couple's chance of pregnancy. However, there has been no consensus on the management of subclinical varicocele. Therefore, we determine the impact of varicocele treatment on semen parameters and pregnancy rate in men with subclinical varicocele. The randomised controlled trials that assessed the presence and/or treatment of subclinical varicocele were included for systematic review

Quantitative DWI is not a reliable diagnostic method for differentiation between benign and malignant ovarian masses. This knowledge is essential in avoiding misdiagnosis of ovarian masses.
The results of this meta-analysis show that HP might be associated with the occurrence and persistence of CSU. The effectiveness of HP eradication therapy in suppressing CSU symptoms was significant. Interestingly, we found that resolution of CSU was not associated with successful eradication of HP infection. CSU Patients who were undergone antibiotic therapy for HP eradication showed significant higher CSU remission with or without HP eradication. Further studies are recommended to evaluate the
After conversion from conventional RPD to IARPD, the PROMs and masticatory performance significantly improved in partially edentulous patients under mandibular Kennedy classification I.
