Professor Itaru Kushima's research lab focuses on the genetic underpinnings of neuropsychiatric disorders, particularly schizophrenia. The lab investigates rare genetic variants, such as missense mutations in the KALRN gene, to understand their role in disease susceptibility. Using advanced genomic and bioinformatic approaches, the team aims to uncover novel genetic risk factors and molecular mechanisms contributing to psychiatric illnesses.
