Professor Jae Jun Park's research lab specializes in advanced medical robotics and gastrointestinal disease research, focusing on the development of innovative robotic systems for endoscopic and pipeline inspection, as well as the clinical management and pathophysiology of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and Behçet’s disease. The lab integrates engineering solutions with clinical medicine to address challenges in diagnosing and treating complex gastrointestinal disorders, particularly in high-risk patient populations. Research also emphasizes the design of autonomous, cable-free robots capable of navigating complex environments under extreme conditions, including pressurized and contaminated pipelines.

Active IBD during the periconception period and pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Our data suggest that pregnancy should be planned when the disease is quiescent, and continuous disease control is important even during pregnancy.
