Professor Jaeyoung Chun's research lab focuses on the intersection of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and systemic comorbidities, particularly metabolic and neurological disorders such as diabetes and Parkinson’s disease. The lab investigates the epidemiological and clinical associations between IBD and conditions like cardiovascular disease, cytomegalovirus (CMV) colitis, and rare infections such as those caused by *Delftia acidovorans*. Utilizing large-scale national health insurance claims data from South Korea, the lab emphasizes population-based cohort studies to uncover risk patterns, disease progression, and clinical implications in chronic inflammatory conditions. The research also explores biomarker utility, such as CMV antigenemia, for guiding early therapeutic interventions in refractory IBD.
