Professor Jae-Young Lim's research lab focuses on aging-related musculoskeletal health, particularly in older adults and patients with chronic conditions such as knee osteoarthritis and hemiplegia. The lab investigates non-invasive therapeutic interventions—including neuromodulation with botulinum toxin and alternative exercise modalities like AQE—to improve pain management, joint mobility, and physical function. Additionally, the lab explores the integration of assistive technologies, such as care robots, in long-term and post-surgical patient care to enhance monitoring efficiency and reduce caregiver burden.
Figures are computed from collected data and may differ slightly.
AQE had an advantage in controlling the interference with activity because of pain. AQE may be an effective tool for patients with obesity who have difficulties with active exercise due to knee osteoarthritis.
The major post-operative ULD were pectoralis tightness at 3 and 6 months and lymphedema at 12 months. Late ULD such as rotator cuff disease were associated with pectoral tightness or lymphedema at earlier stages. Diagnosis and treatment of ULD should take place as soon as possible after surgery.
Results from this study suggest that injection of BoNT-A into selected muscles of the shoulder girdle might provide more pain relief and ROM improvement than intraarticular steroid in patients with hemiplegic shoulder pain. A larger clinical trial needs to be undertaken to confirm the benefits of this approach.
Care robots are expected to be effective in integrated nursing care services, particularly in "measuring/monitoring". Such robots should decrease nurses' workload and minimize nonvalue-added nursing activities efficiently. No matter how excellent care robots are, they must cooperate with and be controlled by nurses.
muscle mass was not associated with physical performance in weak older adults. Measures of muscle strength may be of greater clinical importance in weak older adults than is muscle mass per se.
Methods: The study participants were community-dwelling elderly people aged 65 years or old as a population based sample of one large city. A total of 828 people 65 years or older participated in this study. They were interviewed over the telephone by a trained interviewer using a structured questionnaire to obtain a fall history and details of their most recent fall including date, time, place, circumstances, and associated injury. As for risk factors for falls, we asked about living arran- gem
Our back school program may help patients with chronic low back pain reduce back-specific disability and pain and develop wellness-focused coping strategies such as exercise and stretching.
