Professor Jeong Eon Lee's research lab specializes in advanced energy storage systems, with a primary focus on battery management systems (BMS) and state-of-charge (SoC) estimation for lithium-ion batteries. The lab develops innovative estimation algorithms—such as the enhanced coulomb counting (ECC) method—by integrating open circuit voltage (OCV) and internal resistance models to improve accuracy and mitigate drift errors. Research directions include real-time battery state monitoring, health prognosis, and the optimization of battery performance under cycling conditions. The lab also explores the integration of electrochemical modeling with practical system applications for electric vehicles and smart grids.

The battery performance decreases as the charging/discharging cycles increase. Thus, a battery management system (BMS) is essential to properly estimating the battery states.
