이 교수의 연구실은 소형 modular Reactor(SMR) 기반의 초임계 이산화탄소 냉각 가동 원자로의 설계 및 안전성 확보를 핵심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히 20년 간의 무연료 운전이 가능한 장수명 핵심과 드럼형 제어봉을 통한 내재적 안전성 확보에 초점을 맞추고 있으며, 도시 분산형 에너지 시스템과 기존 화력 발전소 대체를 위한 실용화 가능한 원자로 기술 개발을 추구하고 있습니다. 초임계 CO₂를 냉각제로 사용하는 혁신적인 레이아웃은 높은 열효율과 모듈화 가능성을 동시에 확보합니다.

Most of the small modular reactor (SMR) concepts developed in the past have compact size and a longer life reactor core than the conventional nuclear power plants. However, these concepts have not achieved the full modularization including power conversion system. This study suggests an innovative concept of a reactor cooled by supercritical state carbon dioxide (S-CO2). A reactor core with uranium carbide fuel controlled by drum type control rods was designed. The core has long life (20 years)
