Professor Ji Bong Jeong's research lab specializes in materials science and biomedical engineering, focusing on the electrical properties of thin-film solar cells—particularly Cu(In,Ga)Se₂/Mo heterojunctions—and the role of interface engineering and doping in enhancing device performance. The lab also investigates the clinical and physiological impacts of metabolic and lifestyle factors on urological health, hearing loss, and disease severity in conditions such as liver cirrhosis and COVID-19, integrating biomedical data with machine learning for predictive modeling. Their work bridges advanced materials characterization with translational health research, emphasizing predictive diagnostics and personalized medicine.

Transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1) can act as both a tumor suppressor and a stimulator of tumor progression. We have examined the relationship between polymorphisms of the TGF-beta1 gene and the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. A total of 1,237 Korean subjects were prospectively enrolled; 1,046 patients with chronic HBV infection and 191 healthy controls with no evidence of recent or remote HBV infection. The patients we
Pancreatic cystic neoplasms comprise a pathologically heterogeneous group with many shared clinical features. We assessed the reliability of cyst fluid analysis for the differential diagnosis of pancreatic cysts. Cyst fluid was obtained by fine-needle aspiration from 78 pancreatic cysts. The lesions studied consisted of 17 mucinous cystic tumors (MCTs), 13 serous cystadenomas (SCAs), 5 solid pseudopapillary tumors (SPTs), 8 intraductal papillary mucinous tumors (IPMTs), 6 ductal adenocarcinomas
In hepatic cysts with mural nodule, left-lobe cyst or increment of serum alkaline phosphatase seem to be indicative of BCTs in the diagnosis of suspicious hepatic cyst. Intracystic debris, bile duct dilation, and mural nodule may be suggestive clinical features of malignancy in BCTs.
ABSTRACT The electrical properties of Cu(In,Ga)Se 2 /Mo junctions were characterized with respect of MoSe 2 orientation and Na doping level using an inverse transmission line method, in which the Cu(In,Ga)Se 2 (CIGS)/Mo contact resistance could be measured separately from the CIGS film sheet resistance. The MoSe 2 orientation was controlled by varying the Mo surface density, with the c ‐axis parallel and normal orientations favored on Mo surfaces of lower and higher density, respectively. The ef
The influence of body fat on arterial stiffness remains controversial. This study was performed to investigate the associations between four different types of body fat parameters and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV). A total of 3758 subjects (mean age, 53.4 ± 8.8 years; females, 36.3%) who underwent health check-up were retrospectively analyzed. Anthropometric parameters including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC) and waist-hip ratio (WHR) were assessed, and visceral fat
Cholangitis occurs frequently in hepatolithiasis patients with a common hepatic or common bile duct stricture, residual stones, recurrent stones, and in those that are treated by nonhepatic resection.
Physicians should recognize the role of sleep impairment and psychological stress in the development of FGIDs and a comprehensive approach should be considered to manage patients with FGIDs.
Hsp70 can be responsible for inhibition of cerulein-induced pancreatitis and prevention of spontaneous trypsinogen activation in mice by inhibiting the colocalization of zymogen and lysosomal enzymes.
We aimed to assess the relationship between lifestyle-related variables, metabolic syndrome, and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men ≥ 40 years. We also assessed the impact of these variables on quality of life. From 2014 to 2020, 5355 men who underwent health check-ups with I-PSS questionnaires at our institute were included in the analysis. The impact of LUTS on sleep disorders and moderate to severe degrees of stress were assessed. Multivariate analysis was performed to determine the v
The morphological characteristics of the common channel and pancreatic duct contribute to the development pancreatitis in AUPBD patients and bile reflux into the pancreatic duct might be the main mechanism of pancreatitis in these patients.
The prevalence and age of onset of hearing loss differ according to sex. This study aimed to identify associated factors for age-related hearing loss (ARHL) and determine whether there are differences between males and females regarding associated factors for ARHL. This cross-sectional study used data from adults who underwent medical examinations including hearing tests from 2011 to 2021. A total of 2,349 individuals were included. The study conducted sex-specific analyses using both univariate
The results of this study suggest that liver cirrhosis has a significant impact on the severity of AAP. Of the body composition parameters examined, MMA and abdominal muscle mass showed potential as promising predictors.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has strained healthcare systems worldwide. Predicting COVID-19 severity could optimize resource allocation, like oxygen devices and intensive care. If machine learning model could forecast the severity of COVID-19 patients, hospital resource allocation would be more comfortable. This study evaluated machine learning models using electronic records from 3,996 COVID-19 patients to forecast mild, moderate, or severe disease up to 2 days in advance. A deep neural
