Professor Jin Kyun Park's research lab focuses on autoimmune and inflammatory rheumatic diseases, with a primary emphasis on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic sclerosis (SSc). The lab investigates novel therapeutic targets and molecular mechanisms underlying chronic inflammation, osteoclastogenesis, and immune cell dysfunction, particularly in B cells, monocytes, and regulatory T cells. Key research directions include the development and preclinical evaluation of small-molecule inhibitors—such as Btk and HDAC6 inhibitors—for autoimmune conditions, as well as exploring the role of angiogenesis and bone remodeling in disease progression. The lab also contributes to international consensus efforts in patient-reported outcome measures for inflammatory myopathies.

The novel HDAC6 inhibitor CKD-506 suppresses inflammatory responses by monocytes/macrophages, improves Treg function, and ameliorates arthritis severity in a murine model of RA. Thus, CKD-506 might be a novel and effective treatment option for RA.
Our findings indicate that increased osteoclast formation and higher VEGF levels may contribute to AO in SSc patients. Further studies are needed to elucidate whether targeting osteoclastogenesis may provide a specific therapeutic option for SSc-associated AO.

MNGs in granulomata in the GPA lung express osteoclastic enzymes TRAP and cathepsin K. GPA patients have a higher propensity to form TRAP+ MNGs from peripheral blood than healthy controls. These data suggest that (i) the tendency to form MNGs is a component of the GPA phenotype itself, and (ii) that lesional MNGs might participate in the destructive process through their proteolytic enzymes.
