Professor Jin Yong Lee's research lab focuses on public health and epidemiological studies with a strong emphasis on health disparities, medication adherence, and patient-related behavioral factors in chronic disease management. The lab investigates population-level health outcomes using national health insurance claims data, particularly in the context of HIV, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and infectious disease epidemics such as MERS-CoV. A key research direction involves understanding the psychological and social determinants of treatment adherence, including patient perceptions, health literacy, and trust in health systems. The lab also explores biological and ecological factors in marine organisms, particularly the life cycle and reproductive patterns of Laminaria saccharin, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach to health and environmental research.

Women in the MA group tended to show higher rates of abortion, Caesarean delivery, preeclampsia, preterm delivery, and obstetrical hemorrhage than those in the NHI group Therefore, health authorities should consider investigating what kind of barriers exist or what factors may affect these inequitable outcomes.
For ideal clinical benefit, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected individuals should receive continuous medication. This is the first nationwide antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence study in Asia, where medication monitoring at national level is systemically available. We estimated the ART adherence of incident HIV-infected individuals and investigated factors affecting low medication adherence using the national health insurance (NHI) claims data from 2007 to 2016. Medication possession
The annual standardized prevalence of psoriasis in Korea was 453 per 100,000 of the population in 2015.
We found a high prevalence of steroid phobia among parents of patients with AD, and here show the impact of this phobia on treatment adherence. We emphasize the important role of dermatologists as providers of accurate information and appropriate education about the use of TCS.
In previous studies, Laminaria saccharina L. (Lamour.) sporophytes were found to exhibit two major peaks of sporogenesis and an annual life cycle in Long Island Sound, New York. Young sporophytes were observed shortly after the sporogenesis peaks in early autumn and spring, but most of the mature sporophytes decayed during summer. A new study was conducted to determine if the spring sporogenesis activity contributed to the recruitment observed in autumn through oversummering of gametophytic and
This study suggests that even if cognitive risk perception is dissolved, affective risk perception can continue during MERS-CoV epidemic. Risk perception associating factors (ie, gender, age and self-reported household economic status) appear to be noticeably different between affective and cognitive dimensions. It also indicates that trust in the government influences affective risk perception and cognitive risk perception. There is a need for further efforts to understand the mechanism regardi
This study aims to estimate the volume of unnecessarily utilized hospital outpatient services in Korea and quantify the total cost resulting from the inappropriate utilization. The analysis included a sample of 27,320,505 outpatient claims from the 2009 National Inpatient Sample database. Using the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), patients were considered to have received 'unnecessary hospital outpatient utilization' if they had a CCI score of 0 and were concurrently admitted to hospital for tr
This study examined the public's preventive behavioral responses during the 2015 Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) outbreak in Korea and the influencing factors. Two cross-sectional telephone surveys were conducted by Gallup Korea using random digit dialing in June 2015 (<i>n</i> = 2004). The main outcome variables were nonpharmaceutical preventive measures (survey (1): Measures for reducing transmission (handwashing, face masks); and survey (2): Measures for avoiding conta
Teenage mothers are at high risk for maternal and neonatal complications. This study aimed to evaluate the socioeconomic circumstances of teenage pregnancy, and determine whether these increased risks remained after adjustment for socioeconomic circumstances in Korea. Using the National Health Insurance Corporation database, we selected women who terminated pregnancy, by delivery or abortion, from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010. Abortion, delivery type, and maternal complications were defi
Delayed access to healthcare services is associated with poor outcomes and may cause different complications. Efforts are needed to prevent delays in medical use due to infectious diseases such as COVID-19. Considering the possibility of the emergence of infectious diseases, various countermeasures are needed to prevent delays in medical visit.

Health-Adjusted Life Expectancy (HALE) is a summary measurement that estimates the average number of years that a person at a given age can expect to live an equivalent of full health. HALE has not been previously reported at national or regional levels in Korea. This study aimed to measure HALE from 2005 to 2011 in Korea at both the national and regional levels as part of the Korean National Burden Study of 2012. To measure life expectancy (LE) and HALE, we used the life table method and an app
We studied the influence of surgical trauma to the iliac bone on the implantation of I.V. injected tumor cells, which formed tumor in the surgical wounds of 27/84 mice (32%). None of these mice or nonsurgical mice developed tumor in the opposite or uninjured pelvic bone (P < 0.0001). When different numbers (10(5), 5 x 10(5), and 10 x 10(5)) of TA3Ha cells were injected I.V. immediately after surgery, the frequency of tumor formation showed an increase (respectively, 32%, 63%, 71%). As the interv
