Since the first report on the long-term durable 9.7% solid-state perovskite solar cell employing methylammonium lead iodide (CH3NH3PbI3), mesoporous TiO2, and 2,2',7,7'-tetrakis[N,N-di(4-methoxyphenyl)amino]-9,9'-spirobifluorene (spiro-MeOTAD) in 2012, following the seed technologies on perovskite-sensitized liquid junction solar cells in 2009 and 2011, a surge of interest has been focused on perovskite solar cells due to superb photovoltaic performance and extremely facile fabrication processes
Compositional engineering has been used to overcome difficulties in fabricating high-quality phase-pure formamidinium perovskite films together with its ambient instability. However, this comes alongside an undesirable increase in bandgap that sacrifices the device photocurrent. Here we report the fabrication of phase-pure formamidinium-lead tri-iodide perovskite films with excellent optoelectronic quality and stability. Incorporation of 1.67 mol% of 2D phenylethylammonium lead iodide into the p
The reported photocurrent density (J(SC)) of PbS quantum dot (QD)-sensitized solar cell was less than 19 mA/cm(2) despite the capability to generate 38 mA/cm(2), which results from inefficient electron injection and fast charge recombination. Here, we report on a PbS:Hg QD-sensitized solar cell with an unprecedentedly high J(SC) of 30 mA/cm(2). By Hg(2+) doping into PbS, J(SC) is almost doubled with improved stability. Femtosecond transient study confirms that the improved J(SC) is due to enhanc
Anomalous current-voltage (J-V) hysteresis in perovskite (PSK) solar cell is open to dispute, where hysteresis is argued to be due to electrode polarization, dipolar polarization, and/or native defects. However, a correlation between those factors and J-V hysteresis is hard to be directly evaluated because they usually coexist and are significantly varied depending on morphology and crystallinity of the PSK layer, selective contacts, and device architecture. In this study, without changing morph
Metal halide perovskite materials have shown versatile functionality for a variety of optoelectronic devices. Remarkable progress in device performance has been achieved for last few years. Their high performance in combination with low production cost puts the perovskite optoelectronics under serious consideration for possible commercialization. A fundamental question that remains unanswered is whether these materials can sustain their optoelectronic properties during harsh and prolonged operat
The operational instability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is known to mainly originate from the migration of ionic species (or charged defects) under a potential gradient. Compositional engineering of the "A" site cation of the ABX3 perovskite structure has been shown to be an effective route to improve the stability of PSCs. Here, the effect of size-mismatch-induced lattice distortions on the ion migration energetics and operational stability of PSCs is investigated. It is observe
Defect passivation constitutes one of the most commonly used strategies to fabricate highly efficient perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the durability of the passivation effects under harsh operational conditions has not been extensively studied regardless of the weak and vulnerable secondary bonding between the molecular passivation agents and perovskite crystals. Here, we incorporated strategically designed passivating agents to investigate the effect of their interaction energies on the
Postfabrication surface treatment strategies have been instrumental to the stability and performance improvements of halide perovskite photovoltaics in recent years. However, a consensus understanding of the complex reconstruction processes occurring at the surface is still lacking. Here, we combined complementary surface-sensitive and depth-resolved techniques to investigate the mechanistic reconstruction of the perovskite surface at the microscale level. We observed a reconstruction toward a m
A perovskite solar cell based on rutile TiO2 film was prepared and its photovoltaic performance was compared to an anatase TiO2-based perovskite solar cell. Rutile TiO2 nanoparticles with aspect ratio of 0.2 (20 nm wide and 100 nm long) were prepared by hydrolysis of TiCl4 at ambient temperature. Anatase TiO2 nanoparticles with diameter of about 50 nm were hydrothermally synthesized. The annealed rutile film showed porosity of 60.6%, while lower porosity of 49.1% was detected in the anatase TiO2
Abstract With the impressive record power conversion efficiency (PCE) of perovskite solar cells exceeding 23%, research focus now shifts onto issues closely related to commercialization. One of the critical hurdles is to minimize the cell‐to‐module PCE loss while the device is being developed on a large scale. Since a solution‐based spin‐coating process is limited to scalability, establishment of a scalable deposition process of perovskite layers is a prerequisite for large‐area perovskite solar
