Professor Jong Hwan Kwak's research lab specializes in the development of activatable (turn-on) probes for biomedical imaging, with a focus on cancer and fibrotic diseases. The lab pioneers the design of enzyme-specific chemiluminescent and fluorescent probes to enable sensitive and selective detection of biomarkers such as NQO1 in cancer and TGF-β1 signaling in fibrosis. Abstract A palladium‐catalyzed oxidative acylation of O ‐phenyl carbamates with α‐oxocarboxylic acids via selective aromatic CH bond activation is described. This protocol represents the first ortho ‐acylation of phenol derivatives, and a catalytic amount of triflic acid additive is crucial for this transformation.
Two new sesquiterpenes, pelorol (1) and 5-epi-smenospongine (2), and seven known ones (3-9) were isolated from the sponge Petrosaspongia metachromia, collected from Yap, Federated States of Micronesia. Their structures were determined from spectral data. Pelorol (1) possesses a new carbon skeleton.
