Professor Ju Young Yoon's research lab focuses on long-term care, geriatric health, and health promotion across diverse populations, with an emphasis on person-centered care, sleep health in older adults, and the well-being of healthcare providers. The lab investigates modifiable factors influencing frailty, social engagement, and mental health in long-term care settings, while also exploring health literacy and behavioral outcomes among educators and visiting nurses. Using mixed-methods and longitudinal designs, the lab aims to inform targeted, age- and context-specific interventions in aging and community health.

Long-term care residents often experience sleep disturbances as they are vulnerable to a variety of physical, psychosocial, and environmental factors that contribute to sleep disturbances. However, few studies have examined the combined impact of multiple factors on sleep among long-term care residents. This study aimed to identify the factors that influence sleep efficiency and sleep quality based on a modified senescent sleep model. A total of 125 residents were recruited from seven long-term
The findings provide new evidence for the positive association between person-centered care and nursing home adjustment. The findings also provide insights into the mechanism through which the specific sub-domains of person-centered care and nursing home adjustment operate in the path model.
The GH nursing home model had a longitudinal effect on increasing the probability of residents' social engagement over time, but also increasing the recognition of depressive symptoms compared to traditional nursing homes.
Teachers are not only subjects of school health efforts but also role models for students' health behaviors; teachers' health-promoting behaviors can induce students' healthy behaviors with their positive health outcomes. This study was an examination of personal factors, situational factors, and health literacy as influences on teachers' health-promoting behaviors. A hierarchical multiple regression analysis was implemented based on an integrated model of health literacy. The study results show
Visiting nurses are commonly exposed to workplace violence, but there is a lack of research on violence against these nurses. The purpose of this study was to identify visiting nurses' workplace violence experiences during home visits. This study used a mixed method design. Survey data of 357 home visiting nurses from public health centers were collected for the quantitative data, and a focus group interview was conducted with six visiting nurses for the qualitative data. The quantitative data w
Various subgroups within the frailty trajectory existed among community-dwelling middle-aged and older adults. To reduce frailty, it is necessary to intervene with modifiable factors appropriate for each age group.
The study findings indicate that working in a person-centered care environment is key to higher job satisfaction, which is a significant predictor of turnover intention among staff in long-term care facilities. To recruit and retain qualified staff to provide high-quality person-centered care in long-term care facilities, a supportive work environment is crucial. Fostering a person-centered care environment will ultimately improve quality of care for residents.
Culturally and linguistically different immigrants in the U.S. are considered populations with low health literacy in general, thereby having a high risk of negative health outcomes such as frailty. The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of social support and acculturation on the relationship between health literacy and frailty of Korean immigrants in existing models of health literacy. A total of 244 Korean immigrants aged 50 years and older residing in Southern United States (Ala
The childhood cancer survivors in this study showed a high prevalence of gonadal/sexual dysfunction; accordingly, proper strategies are needed to manage these complications.
