Professor Jun Heo's research lab specializes in advanced signal processing and adaptive detection techniques for wireless communication systems, with a focus on iterative detection, soft-input soft-output (SISO) algorithms, and adaptive channel estimation in time-varying fading environments. The lab develops low-complexity, high-performance detection algorithms—such as fixed-lag and adaptive SISO structures—aimed at improving system reliability and spectral efficiency. Additionally, the lab explores applications of these techniques in emerging communication systems and contributes to vaccine design through bioinformatics, particularly in understanding viral evolution for avian influenza H7N9. The research bridges digital communications, information theory, and computational biology.

Density evolution is used to analyse the scaling of soft information in the iterative decoding of low density parity check codes. Based on the min-sum algorithm and Gaussian approximation, the thresholds are evaluated with various scaling factors. The optimal scaling factor is found by density evolution and the expected scaling gain matches well with the achievable scaling gain from simulation results.
As compared with concomitant therapy, hybrid therapy offered similar efficacy, better compliance, and fewer adverse events. Hybrid therapy could be a reasonable first-line treatment option for H. pylori in areas with high antibiotics resistance.
