Professor Jung-Won Suh's research lab focuses on cardiovascular and vascular biology, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between genetic factors, drug metabolism, and vascular calcification in cardiovascular disease. The lab investigates pharmacogenomic interactions—such as those involving CYP3A5 and clopidogrel—highlighting individualized responses to antiplatelet therapy. It also explores the role of medial arterial calcification, including breast arterial calcifications, as a marker and potential contributor to systemic vascular disease. Additionally, the lab examines endothelial dysfunction in hypertension and the protective effects of statins through mechanisms involving caveolin-1 and nitric oxide signaling.
Figures are computed from collected data and may differ slightly.
People with the CYP3A5 non-expressor genotype are vulnerable to drug interactions between clopidogrel and CYP3A inhibitors. This phenomenon may be associated with worse outcomes in patients with the non-expressor genotype who are given clopidogrel after coronary angioplasty and implantation of bare-metal stents.
Breast arterial calcifications (BAC), frequently observed on screening mammography, have been considered as an incidental finding without increased risk for breast cancer. They are medial calcifications and therefore, are indicative of arteriosclerosis. Previous studies indicated that the risk factors of BAC partly overlap with those of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and the presence of BAC is associated with prevalent and incident CVD. This suggests that medial arterial calcification might contr
Hypertension is associated with endothelial dysfunction and increased cardiovascular risk. Caveolin-1 regulates nitric oxide (NO) signaling by modulating endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS). The purpose of this study was to examine whether HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor improves impaired endothelial function of the aorta in spontaneous hypertensive rat (SHR) and to determine the underlying mechanisms involved. Eight-week-old male SHR were assigned to either a control group (CON, n=11) or a ros

Rosuvastatin is associated with high on-treatment platelet reactivity compared with atorvastatin following the coadministration of clopidogrel for six months. Further studies are therefore warranted to clarify the mechanism underlying this relationship.
It is not clear if anti-restonotic effect of cilostazol is consistent for different types of drug-eluting stents (DES).The purpose of this study was to compare the anti-proliferative effect of cilostazol between DAT and TAT with consideration of confounding influences of DES type.Nine hundred and fifteen patients were randomized to either dual antiplatelet therapy (DAT; aspirin and clopidogrel) or triple antiplatelet therapy (TAT; aspirin, clopidogrel, and cilostazol) in the previous CILON-T tri
