Professor Kyu Eun Lee's research lab specializes in minimally invasive and endoscopic thyroid and parathyroid surgery, with a focus on advancing surgical techniques for optimal cosmetic outcomes and patient recovery. The lab also conducts molecular studies on thyroid tumors, particularly follicular thyroid carcinoma and its benign counterparts, to identify genetic and transcriptomic markers that distinguish malignant from benign disease. Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) and benign follicular adenoma (FA) are indistinguishable by preoperative diagnosis due to their similar histological features. Here we report the first RNA sequencing study of these tumors, with data for 30 minimally invasive FTCs (miFTCs) and 25 FAs. Robotic endoscopic thyroidectomy using the BABA technique is a feasible procedure and can be performed safely. It provides an excellent operative field view enabling easy identification of vital structures. It also gives the desired cosmetic results and minimal postoperative pain similar to conventional endoscopic thyroid surgery using the BABA technique.
PAA endoscopic neck surgery is a feasible method for thyroid and parathyroid surgery that permits good operative visualization and has minimal adverse effects and excellent cosmetic outcomes.
The expression of p53 and nm23 seems to be related with poor prognosis of gastric cancer patients who have undergone gastrectomy. However, the prognostic significance was not revealed by a multivariate analysis.
