Professor Kyung Min Chung's research lab focuses on viral pathogenesis and host-pathogen interactions, with a central emphasis on flaviviruses such as West Nile virus and hepatitis C virus. The lab investigates viral nonstructural proteins—particularly NS1 and NS5A—and their roles in immune evasion, viral persistence, and host cell manipulation. A key research direction involves understanding the molecular mechanisms of host cellular factors, such as karyopherin beta3, in viral replication and nucleocytoplasmic transport. The lab also explores cell death pathways in neural stem cells, linking calpain activity to cell fate decisions in neurodegenerative contexts.
