Professor Kyung Nam Kim's research lab specializes in sustainable energy systems and environmental remediation, with a strong focus on photovoltaic technology, renewable energy integration, and the circular economy. The lab investigates floating solar PV systems, large-scale solar city development, and the reuse of electric vehicle batteries in energy storage, emphasizing economic feasibility and policy integration. It also explores the valorization of industrial by-products—such as mine tailings—for construction materials, aiming to reduce environmental pollution and enhance material sustainability. The lab bridges engineering, policy, and finance to advance low-carbon energy solutions in urban and emerging economies.

Solar photovoltaic technology is one of the most well established new and renewable energy technologies. Many researchers have undertaken wide research and development in this sector, including material and system design. To protect the exhaustion of global terrestrial land and to avoid the occupation of extensive farmlands, solar photovoltaic (PV) developers, as well as policymakers, have pursued various solutions, including the development of floating solar PV (FPV). This study consists of a t
Policy support platforms like the Feed‐in Tariff and the Renewable Portfolio Standard have been very successful in accelerating renewable energy development around the world. Nonetheless, the sustained and consistent transition to a renewable energy future required, e.g., to avoid further climate change, continues to elude societies. To achieve substantial energy transformation, reconsideration of the finance–policy–market interaction is required and is contemplated here by positioning the build
Previous research suggests that the potential for city‐scale photovoltaic ( PV ) applications is substantial across the globe. Successful implementation of ‘solar city’ options will depend on the strategic application of finance mechanisms, solar energy soft cost policies, and other policy tools, as well as the grid price of electricity. Capital markets recently have embraced the roll‐out of new financial instruments, including ‘green bonds,’ which could be incorporated into solar city project d
An emerging problem associated with the increased global demand for electric vehicles (EVs) is the post-use of lithium-ion batteries installed in them. Discarded batteries maintain 70–80% of their performance; thus, they are highly valuable recycling resources. Accordingly, technologies that complement the intermittency of renewable energy by integrating discarded EV batteries into battery energy storage systems (BESSs) are receiving attention. Here, the economic feasibility of a residential sol
Purpose In a rapidly shifting market, organizations seek more diverse and innovative employee development interventions. Yet, these initiatives may have limited impact without employees’ engagement. This conceptual paper aims to propose self-leadership as a value-added strategy for promoting both individual and organizational development. Design/methodology/approach The authors conducted a conceptual analysis with three case examples. The cases were purposefully selected, aiming to comprehend ho
In this study, the characteristics of porcelain body, glaze and inlay were analyzed, using Koryo celadon shard of 10 th -14 th century. The characterization of celadon shard were investigated by Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray fluriscence, X-ray diffractometer, and Dilatometer. The characteristics of celadon shard is similar in color to gray-green with the naked eye, and the thickness of glaze layer and body is about 149.5-200μm and 4.2-8.8mm. The chemical compositions of body is SiO 2 70.9-
In this study, mine tailings obtained in a region near to Youngwol Sangdong(Korea) was used to investigate the contamination of heavy metal ions. Some amount of mine tailings and lignin(AE agent) were added in the general cement pastes, of which the compressive strength and leaching rate were investigated. X-ray fluorescence analysis shows that the major constituents of mine tailings are 56.9wt% of SiO2, 10.8wt% of Fe2O3, 11.2wt% of CaO and 11.4wt% of Al2O3, and the major phases are quartz and c
