Professor Min Woo Kim's research lab specializes in the development of advanced nanotheranostic platforms for cancer diagnosis and treatment. The lab focuses on designing biomimetic and targeted drug delivery systems using lipid-based nanocarriers, quantum dots, and cell membrane-coated nanoparticles to enhance tumor targeting, controlled drug release, and imaging capabilities. Key research directions include engineering multifunctional nanomedicines for gene delivery, overcoming drug resistance, and leveraging extracellular vesicles and liquid biopsy for early cancer detection. The lab integrates nanotechnology, materials science, and molecular oncology to create innovative solutions for precision cancer therapy.

Co-application of fluorescent quantum dot nanocrystals and therapeutics has recently become a promising theranostic methodology for cancer treatment. We developed a tumor-targeted lipid nanocarrier that demonstrates notable efficacy in gene delivery as well as tumor bio-imaging. Coupling of aptamer molecules against the EGF receptor (EGFR) to the distal termini of lipid nanoparticles provided the carrier with tumor-specific recognition capability. The cationic lipid component, referred to as O,O
Recent studies on neurodegeneration have focused on dysfunction of CNS energy metabolism as well as proteinopathies. Adiponectin (ADPN), an adipocyte-derived hormone, plays a major role in the regulation of insulin sensitivity and glucose homeostasis in peripheral organs via adiponectin receptors. In spite of accumulating evidence that adiponectin has neuroprotective properties, the underlying role of adiponectin receptors has not been illuminated. Here, using gene therapy-mediated suppression w
We evaluated the predictive value of serum biomarkers and various clinical risk scales for the 28-day mortality of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Serum biomarkers including procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were evaluated in the emergency department. Scores for the pneumonia severity index (PSI); CURB65 (confusion, urea, respiration, blood pressure; age >65 years); Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) and American Thoracic Society (ATS) guidelines for severe CAP; Acut
The cell membrane-coating strategy has opened new opportunities for the development of biomimetic and multifunctional drug delivery platforms. Recently, a variety of gold nanoparticles, which can combine with blood cell membranes, have been shown to provide an effective approach for cancer therapy. Meanwhile, this class of hybrid nanostructures can deceive the immunological system to exhibit synergistic therapeutic effects. Here, we synthesized red blood cell (RBC) and platelet membrane-coated g
Designing new drug delivery systems (DDSs) for safer cancer therapy during pre-clinical and clinical applications still constitutes a considerable challenge, despite advances made in related fields. Lipid-based drug delivery systems (LBDDSs) have emerged as biocompatible candidates that overcome many biological obstacles. In particular, a combination of the merits of lipid carriers and functional polymers has maximized drug delivery efficiency. Functionalization of LBDDSs enables the accumulatio
Marine ecosystems are the most prevalent ecosystems on the planet, providing a diversity of living organisms and resources. The development of nanotechnology may provide solutions for utilizing these thousands of potential compounds as marine pharmaceuticals. Here, we designed a liposomal glycol chitosan formulation to load both doxorubicin (DOX) and rapamycin (RAPA), and then evaluated its therapeutic potential in a prepared drug-resistant cell model. We explored the stability of the drug deliv
Oxidative stress and insulin resistance play major roles in numerous neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). A high-fat diet induces obesity-associated oxidative stress, neuronal insulin resistance, microglial activation, and neuroinflammation, which are considered important risk factors for neurodegeneration. Obesity-related metabolic dysfunction is a risk factor for cognitive decline. The present study aimed to elucidate whether chronic consumption of a high-fat diet (H
Age-related decline in mitochondrial function and oxidative stress plays a critical role in neurodegeneration. Lactate dehydrogenase-B (LDHB) is a glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of lactate, an important brain energy substrate, into pyruvate. It has been reported that the LDHB pattern changes in the brain during ageing. Yet very little is known about the effect of LDHB deficiency on brain pathology. Here, we have used Ldhb knockout (<i>Ldhb</i>-/-) mice to test the hyp
The central nervous system (CNS) was once perceived as entirely shielded from the immune system, protected behind the blood-brain barrier and thought to lack lymphatic drainage. However, recent evidence has challenged many dogmas in neuroimmunology. Indeed, by means of glymphatics, brain-derived "waste" from deep within the CNS mobilizes toward immunologically active brain borders, where meningeal lymphatic vessels are appropriately positioned to drain antigens from the brain to the periphery. A
When using US-guided FNA to diagnose salivary gland lesions, sampling adequacy depends on the composition or vascularity of the lesions.
O-cyclic phytosphingosine-1-phosphate (cPS1P) is a novel and chemically synthesized sphingosine metabolite derived from phytosphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P). This study was undertaken to unveil the potential neuroprotective effects of cPS1P on two different mouse models of Parkinson's disease (PD). The study used 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) and neuron specific enolase promoter human alpha-synuclein (NSE-hαSyn) Korl transgenic mice. MPTP was injected for five consecutive day
The effect of hypoxia was much greater in the hypotensive group than in the non-hypotensive group both in terms of mortality and disability.
