Professor Minjong Lee's research lab focuses on the intersection of cancer metabolism, liver disease, and translational therapeutics. The lab investigates metabolic reprogramming in hepatocellular carcinoma, particularly the Warburg effect and its reverse form, exploring how tumor-stroma metabolic crosstalk influences cancer progression. A key research direction involves repurposing existing drugs—such as aspirin, clopidogrel, metformin, and dichloroacetate—to target cancer metabolism and improve outcomes in liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The lab also evaluates clinical risk-benefit profiles of antiplatelet and anti-inflammatory therapies in chronic liver disease populations.

Aerobic glycolysis, i.e., the Warburg effect, may contribute to the aggressive phenotype of hepatocellular carcinoma.
