Professor Phill-Seung Lee's research lab specializes in advanced marine and offshore structural systems, with a focus on the design, analysis, and safety of floating and submerged nuclear power plants. The lab conducts cutting-edge research in hydrodynamic analysis of flexible floating structures, employing advanced numerical methods such as finite element and boundary element formulations to model complex fluid-structure interactions under wave and dynamic loading. Key research directions include the development of innovative offshore nuclear power plant concepts—such as spar-type, gravity-based, and submerged designs—alongside the integration of safety and structural integrity in extreme marine environments. The lab also contributes to the advancement of next-generation nuclear energy systems with a strong emphasis on passive safety and environmental resilience.

In this paper, recent advances in Ocean Nuclear Power Plants (ONPPs) are reviewed, including their general arrangement, design parameters, and safety features.
