Professor Rogie Royce Carandang's research lab specializes in aging, mental health, and health policy, with a strong focus on the well-being of older adults and vulnerable populations such as migrant care workers and senior citizens in the Philippines. The lab investigates subjective well-being, unmet health and social needs, and the impact of psychosocial factors on aging populations, particularly through mixed-methods and systematic review approaches. A key direction involves informing policy through evidence-based research on community-based health services and support systems.

As people age, they are expected to experience adverse life conditions and major life events. These circumstances might have a significant impact on their subjective well-being. This study investigated the factors associated with subjective well-being among community-dwelling Filipino senior citizens. We conducted a cross-sectional study among 1021 senior citizens (68.5% women) aged 60 and above and identified the factors independently associated with their subjective well-being using multiple l
The Philippine government is facing a burden of improving health and social services for both the growing elderly and young population. The extent of discussion on aging issues and concerns, however, is minimal at best. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the perceptions of unmet needs and to explore the coping mechanisms of senior citizens across local stakeholders in an urban area in the Philippines. In this qualitative study, we collected data using focus group discussions among senior cit

Home-based records are paper or electronic records retained and used by mothers or caregivers to document the health services received for maternal, newborn, and child health. Little has been studied about the roles of these records on newborn and child health outcomes. Hence, we collated and summarized evidence concerning the roles of home-based records in improving newborn and child health. We conducted a systematic search in several databases: MEDLINE, Web of Science, CINAHL, PsycINFO, PsycAR

Senior volunteers represented a significant, mostly untapped lay resource of informal social care. Hospital pharmacists faced many challenges and learned to adapt to the continued impact of the pandemic. Hospitals are encouraged to implement measures to prepare for future public health crises and provide resources for both physical and mental health meant for hospital pharmacists.
Background: Despite having mandated health programs, dengue cases in Sta. Cruz had a marked increase of 106% in the past two years. Dengue ranked first on notifiable diseases in Sta. Cruz with a rate of 520 per 100000 populations. The occurrence of dengue in one barangay is a threat to nearby barangays and its spread intensified due to proliferating trade and travel. Therefore, dengue cannot be controlled if efforts are limited to only a few members of the community. Hence, strengthening the imp
Evidence supports the acceptability and feasibility of HIVST in Southeast Asia. There is a need to regulate and license HIVST in Southeast Asia to have better recognition as a supplement to HTS.
HIV PrEP has been shown to be both acceptable and feasible. The necessity for direct efforts to expand PrEP access in Southeast Asia and address barriers to its uptake and adherence underscores the importance of ongoing monitoring and implementation.
