Professor Seohyun Kim's research lab focuses on interdisciplinary health and biomedical research, with a strong emphasis on aging-related musculoskeletal and pulmonary health, postural control in older adults, and the psychosocial well-being of marginalized communities. The lab investigates sarcopenia, obesity-sarcopenia synergy, lung function decline, and the role of biomarkers such as adiponectin/leptin and apolipoprotein ratios in chronic disease progression. It also explores innovative rehabilitation strategies, including augmented somatosensory feedback and AFOs, for improving postural stability. Additionally, the lab conducts critical qualitative research on identity, belonging, and resilience among LGBTQ+ refugees, particularly through the lens of 'chosen family' as a protective factor in resettlement.

Code prediction, more specifically autocomplete, has become an essential feature in modern IDEs. Autocomplete is more effective when the desired next token is at (or close to) the top of the list of potential completions offered by the IDE at cursor position. This is where the strength of the underlying machine learning system that produces a ranked order of potential completions comes into play. We advance the state-of-the-art in the accuracy of code prediction (next token prediction) used in a
Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-Cas system has recently gained growing attention as a diagnostic tool due to its capability of specific gene targeting. It consists of Cas enzymes and a guide RNA (gRNA) that can cleave the target DNA or RNA based on the sequence of the gRNA, making it an attractive genetic engineering technique. In addition to the target-specific binding and cleavage, the trans-cleavage activity was reported for some Cas proteins, including Cas1
Impaired activities and abnormally enlarged structures of endolysosomes are frequently observed in Alzheimer disease (AD) brains. However, little is known about whether and how endolysosomal dysregulation is triggered and associated with AD. Here, we show that vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase) is a hub that mediates proteopathy of oligomeric amyloid beta (Aβ) and hyperphosphorylated MAPT/Tau (p-MAPT/Tau). Endolysosomal integrity was largely destroyed in Aβ-overloaded or p-MAPT/Tau-positive neurons in c
We propose a local-to-global representation learning algorithm for 3D point cloud data, which is appropriate to handle various geometric transformations, especially rotation, without explicit data augmentation with respect to the transformations. Our model takes advantage of multi-level abstraction based on graph convolutional neural networks, which constructs a descriptor hierarchy to encode rotation-invariant shape information of an input object in a bottom-up manner. The descriptors in each l
Nearly complete sequences of 16S rRNA genes of representative strains of the genus Saccharomonospora were determined following the isolation and cloning of the amplified genes. The sequences were aligned with those of representatives of the family Pseudonocardiaceae, and a phylogenetic tree was inferred by the neighbor-joining method. The genus Saccharomonospora formed a distinct clade within the evolutionary radiation encompassed by the family Pseudonocardiaceae. The average nucleotide similari
The flowering plant life cycle consists of alternating haploid (gametophyte) and diploid (sporophyte) generations, where the sporophytic generation begins with fertilization of haploid gametes. In <i>Arabidopsis</i>, genome-wide DNA demethylation is required for normal development, catalyzed by the DEMETER (DME) DNA demethylase in the gamete companion cells of male and female gametophytes. In the sporophyte, postembryonic growth and development are largely dependent on the activity of numerous s
This study analyzed meaning attributions regarding "family" and "chosen family" by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Pansexual, Transgender, Gender Queer, Queer, Intersex, Agender, Asexual, and other Queer-identifying community (LGBTQ+) refugees. The meaning and significance of a chosen family in the newly established life of the refugees was also pin-pointed for its value of safekeeping the wellbeing and settlement process. We analyzed narrative statements given by 67 LGBTQ+ refugees from 82 YouTube vide
We advance the state-of-the-art in the accuracy of code prediction (next token prediction) used in autocomplete systems. First, we report that using the recently proposed Transformer architecture even out-of-the-box outperforms previous neural and non-neural systems for code prediction. We then show that by making the Transformer architecture aware of the syntactic structure of code, we further increase the margin by which a Transformer-based system outperforms previous systems. With this, it ou
Patients with pre-existing lung disease and poor lung function need more attention for the development of ICI-related ILD. It is necessary to be aware of clinical manifestation of ICI-related ILD with prompt management.
The relationship between the prevalence of chronic diseases and income level has now become a main theme in poor national economic situations. We examined the prevalence of well-controlled chronic diseases according to income level. Data from the 2008 to 2014 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, conducted by using a stratified, multistage, probability-cluster sampling method, were used. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) inversely correlated with income level (P < 0.001). Diastolic
We aimed to determine the association between cholesterol values and the risk of all-cause mortality in newly diagnosed patients with cancer in a large-scale longitudinal cohort. Newly diagnosed patients with cancer were reviewed retrospectively. Cox proportional hazards regression models determined the association between baseline levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and the risk of all-cause mortality. A
Objective: We report on a comparative study of the language used by middle school students in their answers to a constructed response test of science inquiry knowledge. Background: Text analyses using statistical models have been conducted across a number of disciplines to identify topics in a journal, to extract topics in Twitter messages, and to investigate political preferences. In education, relatively few studies have analyzed the text of students’ written answers to investigate topics unde
The recent increase in lonely deaths among young people has emphasized the emergence of social isolation as a social problem. This study investigated the issue of social isolation by examining multidimensional factors that affect social isolation and evaluating the subjective and objective dimensions of young adults. Data for this study were collected for 8 days (February 7–14, 2022) through an online questionnaire survey by a professional survey agency, based on proportional allocation of the y
The cluster of differentiation 1 (CD1) molecule differs from major histocompatibility complex class I and II because it presents glycolipid/lipid antigens. Moreover, the CD1-restricted T cells that recognize these self and foreign antigens participate in both innate and adaptive immune responses. CD1s are constitutively expressed by professional and nonprofessional antigen-presenting cells in mucosal tissues, namely, the skin, lung, and intestine. This suggests that CD1-reactive T cells are invo
