Professor Seung Hoon Kim's research lab specializes in diagnostic radiology and medical imaging, with a focus on advanced MRI techniques for the accurate detection and characterization of abdominal and intracranial lesions. The lab investigates the application of high-field (3-T) MRI and functional imaging sequences—such as T2*-weighted and proton density FSE—for improving the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma and brain tumors. Additionally, the lab explores the radiological features of rare vascular anomalies and the impact of emerging behaviors like e-cigarette use on adolescent mental health, integrating clinical imaging with broader public health concerns.
Figures are computed from collected data and may differ slightly.
Spectral patterns from in vivo H-1 MR spectroscopy may permit differentiation of brain abscess from necrotic or cystic tumor.
Combined T2-weighted and dynamic gadolinium-enhanced MRI is as accurate as combined CTAP and CTHA for preoperative detection of HCCs.
To propose a hypothesis about the embryogenesis of the subaortic left innominate vein, the authors reviewed the radiologic features of 14 patients diagnosed with subaortic left innominate vein made by computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging scan. The authors retrospectively analyzed the level of the aortic arch, associated aortic arch anomalies, and the presence or absence of obliteration of the prevascular space. A high aortic arch was seen in 10 patients, five with a cervical, two wi
For local staging of rectal cancer, 3-T MRI is more accurate than MDCT for determining the depth of tumor invasion and the extent of lymph node metastasis.
T2*-weighted FMPGR, T2*- weighted FMPSPGR, and proton density FSE appear to be the optimal pulse sequences for ferumoxidesenhanced MR imaging in the detection of HCCs.
In this study, the initial use of e-cigarettes vs conventional cigarettes was associated with suicidal behaviors among adolescents. In future research on the association of e-cigarette use with adolescent mental health and interventions for suicide prevention, the type of cigarette initially used and changing the cigarette type should be considered.
When interpreting lymph node metastasis in oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma using PET/CT, the assumption that any lymph node with mean HU>71 is benign can improve diagnostic accuracy.
Ferucarbotran-enhanced 3.0-T MR imaging using parallel imaging technique is a more accurate diagnostic tool than triple-phase MDCT for the preoperative detection of HCC. Ferucarbotran-enhanced 3.0-T MR imaging has a higher sensitivity than triple-phase MDCT, especially for small HCCs (< or =1 cm).
Our findings suggest that minimal lung function impairment, as expressed by lower FEV1 or FEV1/FVC value, may be associated with increased risk of lung cancer.
These findings suggest that RA is associated with a higher risk of developing POAG, especially within 2 years after diagnosis or among patients aged 75 years or older. There may be a common pathophysiological pathway between RA and POAG that is possibly immune mediated, and the nature of this association warrants further investigation.
Awareness is needed regarding the risk of reduced muscle strength in individuals with moderate and impaired sensory function. Older people with sensory function decline in clinical settings may benefit from programs such as exercise prescription to prevent muscle weakness.
Infusion pressure shown by the vitrectomy device was similar to actual IOP in porcine eyes. However, volume of infusion fluid and variable parameters could change the actual IOP during pars plana vitrectomy. Our results may help to optimize the ideal parameters such as infusion pressure, vacuum pressure, and cutting rate of vitrectomy systems used to treat vitreoretinal diseases.
The eight items for which consensus was reached in this study should be prioritized for Korea's sustainable healthcare system. Health policy makers will need to put considerable effort into researching and establishing these priorities.
