The identifiable victim effect (IVE) refers to individuals' tendency to offer greater help to specific, identifiable victims than to anonymous, statistical victims. A random-effects meta-analysis was conducted to determine the overall weighted effect of IVE. Overall, 41 studies were included. Results indicated an overall significant yet modest IVE (r = .05). In addition, findings showed that IVE appears reliable mainly when there is a single identified or a single unidentified victim, and/or whe
This paper explores the effect of chatbot empathy and identity disclosure on willingness to donate (WTD) to a fundraising project and the psychological mechanism in the relationship. In a 3 (information-only vs. cognitive empathy vs. affective empathy) × 2 (chatbot vs. human identity) experiment, 496 US adults had a conversation about a fundraising event with one of six artificial intelligence-powered chatbots. The results revealed that neither chatbot empathy nor identity disclosure has a signi
The introduction of chat generative pretrained transformer (ChatGPT), the fastest growing large language model, has changed the landscape of artificial intelligence-human interaction in everyday life. As the social influence of ChatGPT increases, competencies in it become important life skills. This study aims to explore the determinants of ChatGPT user satisfaction to provide practical implications by suggesting a significant independent variable and mediators between the independent variable a
Post-stroke administration of CBP can reduce plasma chemokine levels in association with temporary atten uation of brain inflammation and infarct volume development.
These results indicate that CGP42112 can directly protect neurons from ischemia-like injury in vitro via activation of AT2Rs, an effect opposed by AT1R activation at high concentrations. Furthermore, systemic administration of CGP42112 can reduce functional deficits and infarct volume following cerebral ischemia in vivo.
Functional modulation of the non-AT1R arm of the renin-angiotensin system, such as via AT2R activation, is known to improve stroke outcome. However, the relevance of the Mas receptor, which along with the AT2R forms the protective arm of the renin-angiotensin system, as a target in stroke is unclear. Here we tested the efficacy of a selective MasR agonist, AVE0991, in in vitro and in vivo models of ischemic stroke. Primary cortical neurons were cultured from E15-17 mouse embryos for 7-9 d, subje
This study examined the effect of chatbots’ emotional expression on climate-change-mitigation behaviour intention and the individual and serial mediating roles of social presence and guilt in the main effect. This study further tested the moderating role of custom addressing in direct and indirect relationships between the aforementioned variables. To that end, 577 American adults were recruited through Amazon Mechanical Turk. After eliminating incomplete responses, the remaining 549 participant
We found that Alternating day shift bus drivers suffered from more sleepiness while driving from lunch to last driving than Daily two shift bus drivers. This difference may be because Alternating day shift drivers had more irregular work schedules and longer working hours per day and week.
