Professor Shinya Abe's research lab specializes in surgical oncology and cardiovascular interventions, with a focus on colorectal cancer management and peripheral vascular responses. The lab investigates prognostic factors in advanced colorectal cancer, including tumor sidedness and stoma closure outcomes, while also exploring hemodynamic responses in radial artery spasm during cardiac catheterization. Their work spans clinical applications in minimally invasive surgery, particularly in elderly patients with complex gastrointestinal conditions such as cecal volvulus and colon cast syndrome.
Figures are computed from collected data and may differ slightly.
The most common factors preventing stoma closure included distant metastasis or rectal cancer recurrence. The nomogram developed in the present study can help identify rectal cancer patients with high risk of stoma non-reversal.
We examined the response of the radial artery to vasoactive agents (isosorbide dinitrate, ISDN, 1 mg, 3 mg, and 5 mg; verapamil, 1 mg, 3 mg, and 5 mg; and lidocaine, 10 mg, 30 mg, and 50 mg) in 100 consecutive patients admitted for elective coronary angiography. The drug solutions were directly injected into the radial artery from the puncture site. As a result, 5 mg of ISDN increased the diameter of the radial artery by 31% and 28.8% at the proximal and distal sites, respectively. Similarly, 5
Colon cast passage, which is the spontaneous passage of a full-thickness, infarcted colonic segment per rectum, is a rare occurrence. The main cause is acute ischemic colitis resulting from a circulation compromise. Most of the colon cast cases reported were secondary to abdominal aortic aneurysm repairs or colorectal surgery. We report a case of an 80-year-old woman with ischemic colitis who excreted a 20-cm colon cast. In most cases that involve a colon cast containing a muscle layer component
This is the first report of laparoscopic surgery for an advanced-age patient with cecal volvulus accompanied by intestinal malrotation. A 96-year-old woman who had previously undergone laparotomy for cecal volvulus underwent emergency laparoscopic surgery for recurrent volvulus. Because the cecum was about to rupture but not ischemic, we untwist the intestinal volvulus and fixed the cecum to the abdominal wall with a single suture. Five days after the surgery, the volvulus between the suture and
Primary tumor sidedness in both sexes in unresectable recurrent CRC patients treated with chemotherapy may have prognostic implications for post-recurrence CSS.
To determine the clinical usefulness of adenosine Tl-201 imaging for the evaluation of coronary artery disease, 22 patients with suspected coronary artery disease who underwent adenosine and exercise Tl-201 single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) were studied. The peak levels of heart rate (83 vs 123 bpm, p < 0.001), systolic blood pressure (124 vs 164 mmHg, p < 0.001), diastolic blood pressure (70 vs 86 mmHg, p < 0.01) and rate pressure products (10220 vs 20410 bpm x mmHg, p < 0.001)
