Substitutional heteroatom doping is a promising route to modulate the outstanding material properties of carbon nanotubes and graphene for customized applications. Recently, (nitrogen-) N-doping has been introduced to ensure tunable work-function, enhanced n-type carrier concentration, diminished surface energy, and manageable polarization. Along with the promising assessment of N-doping effects, research on the N-doped carbon based composite structures is emerging for the synergistic integratio
Metal halide perovskites have been in the limelight in recent years due to their enormous potential for use in optoelectronic devices, owing to their unique combination of properties, such as high absorption coefficient, long charge-carrier diffusion lengths, and high defect tolerance. Perovskite-based solar cells and light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have achieved remarkable breakthroughs in a comparatively short amount of time. As of writing, a certified power conversion efficiency of 22.7% and an
Graphene-based fibers (GFs) have aroused enormous interest in portable, wearable electronics because of their excellent mechanical flexibility, electrical conductivity, and weavability, which make them advantageous for wearable electronic devices. Herein, we report the development of metal binder-free Ti3C2T<i>x</i> MXene/graphene hybrid fibers by a scalable wet-spinning process. These hybrid fibers exhibit excellent mechanical and electrical properties for appli
Self-assembly of two-dimensional MXene sheets is used in various fields to create multiscale structures due to their electrical, mechanical, and chemical properties. In principle, MXene nanosheets are assembled by molecular interactions, including hydrogen bonds, electrostatic interactions, and van der Waals forces. This study describes how MXene colloid nanosheets can form self-supporting MXene hydrogels. Three-dimensional network structures of MXene gels are strengthened by reinforced electros
Oxidative etching of graphene flakes was observed to initiate from edges and the occasional defect sites in the basal plane, leading to reduced lateral size and a small number of etch pits. In contrast, etching of highly defective graphene oxide and its reduced form resulted in rapid homogeneous fracturing of the sheets into smaller pieces. On the basis of these observations, a slow and more controllable etching route was designed to produce nanoporous reduced graphene oxide sheets by hydrotherm
Hybrid assembly of peptides and graphene into core/shell nanowires is presented here. Electroconductive nanowires comprised of multilayered graphene shells wrapped around peptide nanowire cores were readily assembled upon diluting peptide solution into an aqueous reduced graphene dispersion. Calcination of peptide cores generated a hollow graphene-shell network with large surface area and high thermal/chemical stability. Detailed facts of importance to specialist readers are published as ”Suppor
Graphene, despite being the best known strong and electrical/thermal conductive material, has found limited success in practical applications, mostly due to difficulties in the formation of desired large-scale highly organized structures. Our discovery of a liquid crystalline phase formation in graphene oxide dispersion has enabled a broad spectrum of highly aligned graphene-based structures, including films, fibers, membranes, and mesoscale structures. In this review, the current understanding
Abstract Energy storage capabilities of transition metal oxides (TMOs) have expanded beyond the realm of ruthenium and manganese oxides to a versatile TMO like tungsten trioxide (WO 3 ). The phase‐determined nature, such as intrinsic formation of hollow tunnels in the hexagonal polymorph of WO 3 (Hexa WO 3 ) and highly crystalline features in the monoclinic phase (Mono WO 3 ), makes WO 3 an attractive candidate for energy storage applications like supercapacitors. The development of superior WO
Colloidal dispersions with liquid crystallinity hold great promise for fabricating their superstructures. As an example, when graphene oxide (GO) sheets are assembled in the liquid crystalline state, they can turn into ordered macroscopic forms of GO such as fibers via the wet spinning process. Here, we report that by reinforcing intersheet interactions, GO liquid crystals (LCs) turn into mechanically robust hydrogels that can be readily drawn into highly aligned fibrillar structures. GO hydroge
A highly efficient simplified organic light-emitting diode (OLED) with a molecularly controlled strategy to form near-perfect interfacial layer on top of the anode is demonstrated. A self-organized polymeric hole injection layer (HIL) is exploited increasing hole injection, electron blocking, and reducing exciton quenching near the electrode or conducting polymers; this HIL allows simplified OLED comprised a single small-molecule fluorescent layer to exhibits a high current efficiency (∼20 cd/A)
The synthesis and liquid crystalline behavior of peptide nanowire is presented. An aromatic dipeptide rapidly assembles into robust one-dimensional nanowires having a large aspect ratio in a volatile organic solvent. The stable dispersion of rigid nanowires shows a colloidal nematic liquid crystalline phase over a broad concentration, which is particularly advantageous for fabricating well-aligned nanowire morphologies under an external field.
Fiber nanomaterials can become fundamental devices that can be woven into smart textiles, for example, miniaturized fiber-based supercapacitors (FSCs). They can be utilized for portable, wearable electronics and energy storage devices, which are highly prospective areas of research in the future. Herein, we developed porous carbon nanotube-graphene hybrid fibers (CNT-GFs) for all-solid-state symmetric FSCs, which were assembled through wet-spinning followed by a hydrothermal activation process u
Although metal halide perovskite (MHP) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have demonstrated great potential in terms of electroluminescence efficiency, the operational stability of MHP LEDs currently remains the biggest bottleneck toward their practical usage. Well-confined excitons/charge carriers in a dielectric/quantum well based on conventional spatial or potential confinement approaches substantially enhance radiative recombination in MHPs, but an increased surface-to-volume ratio and multiphase
