Professor The Ky Vo's research lab specializes in the design, synthesis, and application of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and other advanced porous materials, with a focus on developing scalable and efficient synthesis methods. The lab explores innovative reactor systems—such as continuous tubular reactors under microwave irradiation—to enable rapid, high-yield production of MOFs like UiO-66(Zr) while maintaining high crystallinity and porosity. Key research directions include materials for gas storage, separation, and catalysis, with an emphasis on sustainability and industrial scalability. UiO-66(Zr) has been widely used for many applications due to its high surface area and excellent chemical and thermal stabilities. Conventionally, UiO-66(Zr) has been prepared in an autoclave by solvothermal synthesis, which requires a lengthy reaction time (typically 24 h) while only producing a small amount of product.
