Professor Yong Un Shin's research lab specializes in retinal and choroidal microvasculature imaging using advanced optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and swept-source OCT. The lab focuses on understanding microvascular changes in retinal diseases such as retinal detachment, diabetic macular edema, retinal vein occlusion, and end-stage renal disease, with an emphasis on quantitative assessment of vessel density, perfusion, and structural changes. The team also investigates the impact of systemic conditions and medical interventions on ocular microcirculation and visual outcomes.
Figures are computed from collected data and may differ slightly.
The CCP VD could be related to the anatomical restoration of the outer retinal layer in macula-off RRD. The CCP VD as determined by OCTA could be an indicator of the visual outcome after surgery in macula-off RRD.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of haemodialysis on perfused vessel density, choroidal thickness (CT), and retinal thickness in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA). We studied twenty-nine eyes of 29 ESRD patients by ophthalmologic examination and SS-OCTA before and after haemodialysis. The colour-coded perfusion density maps were generated and perfused vessel density was calculated. Changes in systemic and other
In this cross-sectional study, we examined age-related changes in the retinal vessels of 100 healthy participants, aged from 5 to 80 years, and divided into four groups (G1, under 20 years of age; G2, from 20 to 39 years of age; G3, from 40 to 59 years of age; G4, age 60 years or older). All subjects underwent swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA). The vascular density (VD) of the superficial (SCP) and deep capillary plexus (DCP), and choriocapillaris (CCP
To quantitatively compare short-term hard exudates (HEs) alteration in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) after intravitreal triamcinolone, dexamethasone implant or bevacizumab injections. This retrospective study enrolled DME eyes with HEs that underwent a single-dose intravitreal injection of triamcinolone (25 eyes), dexamethasone implant (20 eyes), or three monthly injections of bevacizumab (25 eyes) and completed at least three months of follow-up. All patients were examined before a
Retinal vein occlusion (RVO) is the second most common retinal vascular diseases and there are only a few Asian population-based studies with small samples. Hypertension is one of a modifiable risk factor of RVO, but no recent studies have shown the relationship between RVO and hypertension control status. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of RVO and its associated factors in an adult Korean population.A nationwide population-based, cross-sectional study. We enrolled 37,982 participants fro
We report a rare case of optic nerve atrophy with severe disc cupping resulting from methanol poisoning. A 30-year-old man presented to the hospital complaining of decreased visual acuity in both eyes a day after drinking alcohol containing methanol. His initial visual acuity allowed for only visualizing hand motion and not corrected in either eye. Initial intraocular pressure was within normal limits in both eyes. Initial fundus examination showed optic disc swelling in both eyes. Four years la
Intravitreal bevacizumab injection with PRP resulted in marked regression of neovascularization compared with PRP alone. One serious side effect, BRAO, was noted in this study. Further studies are needed to determine the effect of repeated intravitreal bevacizumab injections and the proper number of bevacizumab injections as an adjuvant.
Both OCT devices had comparable repeatability for retinal thickness measurement in normal eyes and eyes with retinal disease. However, the possibility of measurement error should be considered in eyes with a thin and atrophic retina.
Purpose. To demonstrate the long-term effectiveness of vitrectomy for intermediate uveitis (IU) and to determine whether complete control of inflammation before vitrectomy is necessary. Methods. This retrospective study included 66 eyes of 66 patients with IU who underwent vitrectomy for vitreoretinal complications. Eyes were followed for at least 12 months after vitrectomy. The degree of inflammation control and visual acuity were compared before and after vitrectomy. These parame
Purpose To determine the range of eye movement in normal human subjects and to investigate the effect of age on eye movement. Methods We enrolled 261 healthy subjects, 5–91 years of age for this prospective observational study. Photographs were obtained in the cardinal gaze positions and processed using Photoshop. The processed images were analyzed using the Image J program to measure the angle of eye movement. The angle of eye movement was quantified using a modified limbus test. We measured th
Chronic sclerosing sialadenitis, also known as Kuttner tumor, is a chronic inflammatory disease of the salivary glands that is reported in a few cases in medical literature. Recent reports suggest that certain aspects of sclerosing diseases, including chronic sclerosing sialadenitis or dacryoadenitis, should be classified under immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related sclerosing disease based on immunohistochemical studies. This study reports an unusual case of IgG4-related sclerosing disease appearing
