How to Stop Requests and Use Search Toggles

The stop button in AI Chat immediately halts any ongoing response, while toggles let you control external and library paper search independently. Keep external search on during exploration and switch to library-only during writing to focus on papers you already have.

How do you stop a request?

Click the Stop button while AI is generating a response. The request stops immediately and any results already generated are preserved.

What is the external paper search toggle?

When the External Paper Search toggle is on, AI searches from the 460M+ academic paper database. When off, it only searches papers saved in your library.

What is the library paper search toggle?

When the Library Paper Search toggle is on, AI references papers saved in your library. When off, library papers are excluded from responses.

What do Off, Ask, and On mean for each toggle?

Each toggle has three states. On always uses search, Off never does, and Ask lets AI search only when it decides it's needed instead of every time. You can set these under Search permissions in the Add Context popover.

Can you use both toggles at the same time?

Yes. With both on, AI searches both your library and external papers together. We recommend turning on external search during early research for broad exploration, and switching to library-only during writing to focus on your collected papers.

Note that if both toggles are off, responses may not include citations.
