About the Lab

Professor A-ram Park's research lab focuses on interdisciplinary innovation at the intersection of biomedical engineering, digital health technologies, and human-centered computing. The lab explores priming strategies to enhance mesenchymal stem cell therapy for neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s, while also advancing intelligent health services through IoT, chatbots, and AI-driven systems. A key theme is the development of sustainable, user-responsive digital health solutions that integrate artificial intelligence with real-world healthcare applications. The lab also investigates the cultural and cognitive dimensions of digital media, including the evolution of books in the age of ubiquitous computing.

SJR Q2Healthcare Informatics ResearchOA

OBJECTIVES: Services based on the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies have emerged in various business environments. To enhance health service quality and maximize benefits, this study applied an IoT technology based on NFC and iBeacon as an omni-channel service for patient care in hospitals. METHODS: Application of the IoT technology based on NFC and iBeacon was conducted in a general hospital during August 2015 through June 2016, and the development and evaluation results were aligned to an

Examining AI and Systemic Factors for Improved Chatbot Sustainability
Arum Park, Sae Bom Lee
SJR Q1Journal of Computer Information SystemsOA

Chatbots link companies and users, increase conversions, reduce labor costs, and provide answers based on big data. Since COVID-19, demand for non-face-to-face services has increased. Despite expectations, chatbot use is inconsistent and satisfaction is low. This study identifies factors for improving the sustainability of chatbot services by considering artificial intelligence factors (personalization, anthropomorphism, social presence) and systemic factors (responsiveness, compatibility). The

This book represents the end of a very long and trying journey. In the time it took to bring this book to print, my two children were born, my father passed away, and a global pandemic crisis descended upon us.Needless to say, there were many moments of difficulty along the way, and I contemplated throwing in the towel more than once. But in August of 2020, I happened to revisit my campus office for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began and saw two notes waiting for me in my mailbox, fr

The Three Dimensions of Book Evolution in Ubiquitous Computing Age: Digitalization, Augmentation, and Hypermediation
Arum Park, Kyoung Jun Lee, Federico Casalegno

This paper suggests a framework for the book evolution in ubiquitous computing age. Based on the review of the academic researches and industrial development, we suggest the three dimensions of the evolution of books: digitalization, augmentation, and hypermediation. Based on the framework, we suggest three research and business development directions: 1) Open Hypermediation, 2) e-Book Augmentation, and 3) Mobile-Device Based Augmentation.

Parthenogenesis in Hesiod's Theogony
Arum Park
SJR Q3Preternature Critical and Historical Studies on the Preternatural

ABSTRACT This article examines female asexual reproduction, or parthenogenesis, in Hesiod's Theogony and argues that it is a symptom of the unprecedented and unparalleled female presence Hesiod inserts into his cosmos. This presence in turn reflects Hesiod's incorporation of gender difference and conflict as indispensable both to the creation and, paradoxically, to the stability of the universe. Five of Hesiod's deities reproduce parthenogenetically: Chaos, Gaea, Night, Strife, and Hera, of whom

Zero Object Resolution in Korean
Arum Park, Seunghee Lim, Munpyo Hong
Institutional Repositories DataBase (IRDB)OA

 Korean is one of the well-known „pro-drop‟ languages. When translating Korean zero object into languages in which objects have to be overtly expressed, the resolution of zero object is crucial. This paper proposes a machine learning method to resolve Korean zero object. We proposed 8 linguistically motivated features for ML (Machine Learning). Our approach has been implemented with WEKA 3.6.10 and evaluated by using 10-fold cross validation method. The accuracy of the proposed method reached 7

Ischemia-induced cerebral injury evolves over a longer period than previously believed through post-ischemic inflammation. Retinoic acid (RA) has been shown to exert cytoprotective effects on several cells, but its effects on ischemia-induced cerebral injury have been poorly characterized. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of all-trans-RA on ischemia-induced cerebral injury and elucidate the underlying mechanism. All-trans-RA treatment reduced the size of the ischemia-induc

Development of Aspergillus fumigatus-induced chronic atopic dermatitis mouse model
Arum Park, Hyojung Park, Jinho Yu
Allergy Asthma & Respiratory DiseaseOA

Purpose: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common chronic and relapsing inflammatory skin disease with skin barrier defects and altered immune responses. Chronic inflammation leads to irreversible fibrosis in the skin and there is no treatment to completely abolish the inflammation and fibrosis. To prevent or treat the chronic process of AD, it is necessary to develop a murine model of AD that reflects the chronic process to identify the mechanism. The aims of this study were to develop a chron
