About the Lab
Professor Albert Tonghoon Han's research lab specializes in urban and regional planning with a focus on sustainable development, growth management, and climate change mitigation. The lab investigates how local and regional policies influence urban form, land use, and environmental outcomes, particularly through the lens of greenbelt policies, municipal planning, and deep decarbonization strategies. Research spans empirical analysis of policy impacts using quantitative methods, as well as qualitative and computational approaches such as topic modeling and sentiment analysis to assess alignment between political platforms and policy goals. This study analyzes the effects of relaxing the greenbelt in the Seoul Metropolitan Area of South Korea. This study explores the changes in the regional growth patterns in the nine largest Canadian Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs) between 1990 and 2010.
