About the Lab
Professor Bo Hyun Yoon's research lab focuses on translational biomedical research with a strong emphasis on reproductive health, antibiotic toxicity, and metabolic disorders. The lab investigates the pathogenesis and risk factors of endometriosis, particularly the role of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) in disease initiation, as well as prognostic markers like CA-125 and adhesion scores in recurrence. It also explores metabolic complications in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), especially the link between hyperandrogenism, metabolic syndrome, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Additionally, the lab examines nephrotoxicity mechanisms of last-resort antibiotics like polymyxin B, aiming to improve drug safety through tissue distribution and oxidative stress studies.

Abstract To evaluate risk factors leading to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) occurrence in polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) women. A retrospective cohort study of a total of 586 women diagnosed with PCOS aged 13–35 years at the gynecology department at a university hospital was done to evaluate PCOS phenotype, metabolic syndrome (MetS) diagnosis, body composition, insulin sensitivity, sex hormones, lipid profile, liver function, and transient elastography (TE). DOR caused by previous ovarian surgery may show better pregnancy outcome, whereas that caused by chemotherapy could significantly increase the cycle cancellation rate.
