About the Lab

Professor Bora Lee's research lab focuses on developmental psychology and vocational identity formation, particularly among emerging adults and youth. The lab investigates the interplay between emotions, cognitive processes such as self-efficacy and career thoughts, and career decision-making across adolescence and young adulthood. Using longitudinal and multilevel modeling approaches, the lab explores how individual differences and within-person changes in motivation, identity development, and social contexts influence long-term career outcomes and well-being.

The Role of Emotion in Job Search Behavior Among College Students
eunjin Kim, Bora Lee
SJR Q1Journal of Career Development

Korean college students preparing to enter the world of work are going through a long-term process of job searching. During the process, individuals experience various emotions, which can motivate (or demotivate) them to keep going. The present study, grounded in motivational systems theory, examined the roles of emotions in job search behavior. A sample of 116 college students, who were seeking a job for the first time, participated. Using three-wave longitudinal data and multilevel modeling, w

ABSTRACT The world of work remains gender‐segregated, and research is needed to identify factors that may give rise to women's and men's vocational choices. This study explored bidirectional relations between youth's gendered career aspirations and the proportions of youth's leisure time spent in stereotypically gendered activities and gendered social contexts. Participants were 203 youth (52% girls) from predominantly white, working and middle class families living in the US, who reported on th

SJR Q1Emerging Adulthood

In the present study, we examined the associations between cognitive processes and vocational identity development. A sample of 318 Korean emerging adults participated in the study. Using three-wave longitudinal data and applying multilevel modeling, we tested within- and between-person-level associations. We found that individuals who are higher in career self-efficacy than others are more likely to be engaged in exploration and commitment. Those who exhibit more dysfunctional career thoughts a

Parenting Styles and Children’s Delinquency Reconsidered: An Empirical Assessment

SJR Q3Juvenile and Family Court Journal

Abstract For decades, criminological theories have emphasized the importance of strong parent‐child relationships in preventing children’s delinquent behaviors (e.g., Gottfredson & Hirschi, 1990). In particular, Thornberry’s (1996) interactional theory has catalyzed studies of the critical importance of reciprocal relationships between parents and children. However, though previous studies have examined reciprocal relationships, they typically do not assess changes in those relationships ove
