About the Lab
Professor Chanhoo Song's research lab focuses on organizational behavior, leadership, and knowledge management in dynamic work environments, particularly in service and innovation-driven sectors. The lab investigates how transformational and servant leadership foster knowledge sharing, team creativity, and proactive behaviors, especially in diverse and collaborative teams. It also explores the impact of organizational structures—such as outsourcing and performance appraisal systems—on customer orientation and intergroup cooperation. The lab employs mixed-methods approaches, including surveys, structural equation modeling, and social network analysis, to examine interpersonal and organizational dynamics in South Korean organizations and beyond.

15We examined servant leadership as a precursor to a knowledge-sharing climate and demonstrated the mediating role of knowledge-sharing climate in the relationship between servant leadership and team performance. Data from 67 teams, comprising 1,884 direct sales representatives of a large cosmetics company in South Korea, were analyzed at the team level. The dependent variable, team creativity, was measured by questioning R&D team managers to wh
Prior research has illustrated the benefits of cooperation across groups. This study sought to identify methods to induce cooperation across groups. Three laboratory studies showed modifying performance appraisals to include intergroup behavior, and including an external supervisor evaluation, led to greater frequencies of helping behavior and more positive attitudes towards cooperating under scarce resource conditions.

Overall, the cooperation and competition literature can be classified into two distinct research paradigms that examined different research questions, operationlizations, and methodologies. The social interdependence approach examines the relative benefits of cooperation and competition, while the behavioral choice approach studies determinants of cooperative behaviors in dilemma situations. Based on the literature review, this study proposed a model of cooperation and competition, and due to fe
