About the Lab

Professor CheolYong Hwang's research lab focuses on antimicrobial resistance and infectious diseases in companion animals, with a strong emphasis on zoonotic pathogens such as *Staphylococcus pseudintermedius*, *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, and *Staphylococcus aureus*. The lab investigates the in vitro and in vivo efficacy of novel antimicrobial agents, including manuka essential oil and combination therapies, against multidrug-resistant bacteria in dogs and livestock. Research also includes the molecular characterization of resistance genes and mobile genetic elements, such as pRE25-like plasmids, to support surveillance and control of antimicrobial resistance in veterinary and One Health contexts.
