About the Lab

Professor Chi-Hoon Song's research lab specializes in technology acceptance, digital innovation, and cloud computing adoption, with a strong focus on individual-level technology use in diverse contexts such as e-government services, personal cloud storage, and mobile applications. The lab investigates behavioral and psychological factors—such as trust, perceived risk, protection motivation, and social influence—that shape user adoption of emerging technologies. It also explores structural and institutional influences in technology adoption, including industry-specific dependencies and channel management in retail supply chains. The lab employs advanced quantitative methods, particularly structural equation modeling, to analyze empirical data from South Korean and international contexts.

Effects of trust and perceived risk on user acceptance of a new technology service
Ji‐Hwan Lee, Chi-Hoon Song
SJR Q3Social Behavior and Personality An International JournalOA

We explored the precise impacts of trust and perceived risk on the core constructs of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). We applied the UTAUT model to the novel context of the Certified e-Document Authority (CeDA) service used in the Republic of Korea. Our results from structural equation modeling largely supported our hypotheses. Trust and perceived risk were shown to be direct antecedents of intention to use, and trust functioned as an indirect antecedent. Performa

Acceptance of public cloud storage services in South Korea: A multi-group analysis
Chi-Hoon Song, Sang Woo Kim, Sohn Young-Woo
SJR Q1International Journal of Information ManagementOA

As cloud computing has spread from the enterprise sector to individuals, there has been a growing need for research on the adoption of cloud computing at the individual level. However, relatively little research has investigated the differences and similarities between users and nonusers regarding the individual-level technology acceptance. To fill this gap, this study explored the differences and similarities between users and nonusers in the context of public cloud storage services of South Ko

The influence of dependability in cloud computing adoption
Chi-Hoon Song, Sohn Young-Woo
SJR Q2The Journal of SupercomputingOA

Abstract Cloud computing (CC) has many benefits, so its use has spread rapidly, particularly in the business sector. An important consideration in the acceptance of CC is whether the CC system is dependable, and it can differ among industry and service type. However, little research has considered the effect of dependability (composed of availability , reliability , security , maintainability ) on CC acceptance. Especially, group comparisons between high IT-intensive (Hi-ITi) and low IT-intensiv

Impact of Online Reviews on Mobile App Sales: Open Versus Closed Platform Comparison
Chi-Hoon Song, Kyung‐Do Park, Byung Cho Kim

A rapid growth of the mobile app market has been identified as a key driver of the successful proliferation of the mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet devices. In this paper, we identify the success factors that contribute to the sales of mobile apps, grounded on the word-of-mouth literature. While open innovation is generally accepted as an effective solution for traditional goods development, the optimal platform choice for app development is not yet justified. Given this controversy

Exploring the Cloud Storage Service Adoption Through the Dual Perspectives: Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) and the Extended Unified Theory of Technology Acceptance Model (UTAUT2)
Chi-Hoon Song, Ji‐Hwan Lee, Taewoo Roh
SJR Q1International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction

Cloud computing is spreading rapidly, but little research has been conducted to understand the effects of the protective perspective on acceptance by individuals. The goal of this study was to explore the impact of protective behavior on individuals’ adoption of cloud computing. Specifically, the study will concentrate on personal cloud storage service (CSS), widely recognized as a protective technology. Our theoretical framework endeavored to combine protection motivation theory with the extend

A Study on the manufacturer’s performance of support activities to key accounts
Chi-Hoon Song, Kyung‐Do Park, Hae Soo Pyun
Journal of Channel and RetailingOA

Key account management (KAM) is an approach adopted by manufacturers to build strong relationship with their key accounts. To build strong relationship manufacturers offer their key accounts tailored product/service packages on a continuing basis. Because of technological changes and emergence of larger retailers, the importance of key accounts to manufacturers are increasing. However, related research about key account management is still rare in domestic market setting. Our study focused on th

Exploring Cloud Computing Adoption in an Organization Context through the Dual Perspectives: Structural Equation Modeling and Machine Learning Approach
Chi-Hoon Song, Jeong-Yeon Kang, Duckhee Lee
The Journal of Internet Electronic Commerce Resarch

The goal of this study was to identify factors that determine the acceptance of cloud computing (CC), by integrating dependability attributes with the technology acceptance model. Simultaneous application of structural equation modeling (SEM) and machine learning (ML) indicates that availability, reliability and maintainability are direct predictors of CC acceptance, but security is not. Availability and reliability act as antecedents on the usefulness and the ease of CC, but the effect of secur

Protection Motivation and Technology Acceptance: The Case of the Cloud-Enabled Storage Service
Chi-Hoon Song, Ji‐Hwan Lee
Academy of Management Proceedings

This study explores how the threat of data loss can affect an individual’s intention to adopt personal cloud storage service as protection against data loss. The methods integrate protection motivation theory with the extended unified theory of technology acceptance model. Threat (i.e., perceived severity and perceived vulnerability) did not directly affect behavioral intent, but mostly acted as an antecedent of other cognitive variables (e.g, performance expectancy, response efficacy).
