About the Lab

Professor Chul Young Kim's research lab specializes in natural product isolation, structural elucidation, and bioactivity evaluation of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants and marine organisms. The lab focuses on developing efficient chromatographic techniques—particularly centrifugal partition chromatography (CPC)—for the rapid purification of iridoid glycosides, flavonoids, and other phytochemicals. Current research directions include the identification of Nrf2-activating antioxidants, the synthesis of luminescent iridium complexes for optoelectronic applications, and the preclinical evaluation of natural radioprotective agents using zebrafish models. The lab integrates analytical chemistry, spectroscopy (NMR, MS), and biological assays to bridge natural product discovery with therapeutic potential.
