About the Lab
Professor Do Hun Lim's research lab specializes in radiation oncology, with a focus on optimizing radiotherapy techniques and treatment strategies for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), brain tumors, and prostate cancer. The lab investigates the role of neoadjuvant and adjuvant radiotherapy, including stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), to improve local control and survival outcomes. A key emphasis is on integrating advanced imaging and deep learning models to predict patient survival and personalize treatment planning.

SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA: Despite many promising retrospective data on the effect of neoadjuvant treatment for borderline resectable pancreatic cancer (BRPC), no high-level evidence exists to support the role of such treatment. METHODS: This phase 2/3 multicenter randomized controlled trial was designed to enroll 110 patients with BRPC who were randomly assigned to gemcitabine-
BACKGROUND: Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is a common complication in patients with advanced-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The authors evaluated the impact of radiotherapy (RT) for PVT of HCC and analyzed the dose-response relation between RT and PVT. METHODS: Between March 1995 and December 2003, 59 patients diagnosed as HCC with PVT were included. The inclusion criteria were unresectable tumor with thrombosis in the main or first branch of the portal vein, liver function of Child-Pugh C
Early 3D-CRT for HCC unresponsive to 1 or 2 cycles of TACE resulted in a 62.8% tumor response rate and relatively high complete response rates (20.9%) with acceptable toxicity. This study shows that the application of 3D-CRT could be considered for patients with incomplete TACE.
Lymph node metastasis was a poor prognostic factor and adjuvant RT may be useful in patients with microscopic residual tumor. However, because there were high loco-regional recurrences, additional study is needed to determine more effective RT such as increased RT dose or use of radiosensitizers.
This study aimed to investigate the performance of a deep learning-based survival-prediction model, which predicts the overall survival (OS) time of glioblastoma patients who have received surgery followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). The medical records of glioblastoma patients who had received surgery and CCRT between January 2011 and December 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Based on our inclusion criteria, 118 patients were selected and semi-randomly allocated to training and t
Based on the dosimetric criteria outlined in RTOG 0236, the treatment technique using non-coplanar static beams showed the most preferable results for SBRT of lung lesions.
OBJECTIVE: This study was performed to determine the clinical significance of the Ki-67 labeling index (LI) for local control (LC) in patients with World Health Organization (WHO) grade II meningioma. We also tried to discern the effect of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) on LC depending upon the Ki-67 LI value. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The medical records and values of Ki-67 LIs were retrospectively reviewed for 50 patients who underwent surgical resection of intracranial WHO grade II meningioma
High-dose 3D-CRT for small HCC <5 cm showed favorable local control and overall survival without serious complications. RT might be an effective local modality in patients with small HCC not eligible for other local modalities.
