About the Lab

Professor Do Kyun Kim's research lab focuses on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance and epidemiology, with a strong emphasis on bloodstream infections caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens such as *E. coli*, *Klebsiella pneumoniae*, *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, and *Acinetobacter* spp. The lab investigates the molecular mechanisms of resistance, including carbapenemase production and virulence factors like the pks gene cluster, while also contributing to national surveillance systems such as Kor-GLASS. In parallel, the lab explores complex fluid dynamics, particularly unsteady incompressible flows around bluff bodies, with applications in biomedical and environmental engineering. The integration of clinical microbiology, public health surveillance, and computational fluid dynamics defines the lab’s interdisciplinary approach.

우리 대법원 법해석론의 전환: 로널드 드워킨의 눈으로 읽기 ― 법의 통일성(Law’s Integrity)을 향하여 ―
김도균

The essence of Dworkin’s legal philosophy is that law is and should be based on integrity. According to law as integrity, propositions of law are true if they figure in or follow from principles of justice, fairness and procedural due process that provide the best constructive interpretation of the community’s legal practice. Integrity in legislation means that legislators should try to preserve coherence in principles. Integrity in adjudication means that judges responsible for establishing and

The Impact of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Outbreak on Trends in Emergency Department Utilization Patterns
김도균, 김도균, 이진희, 곽영호
Journal of Korean Medical Science

Changes occurred in the patterns of utilization of emergency medical services during the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) outbreak. The purpose of this study was to analyze the patterns of adult and pediatric patients who visited the emergency department (ED) during the outbreak. This retrospective study was conducted by analyzing changes in the patterns of visits among adult and pediatric patients in the ED at one tertiary teaching hospital in Korea. The study was performed from June 1,

Pinhole Camera Measurements of Prompt Gamma-rays for Detection of Beam Range Variation in Proton Therapy
김도균, Heejung Yim, 김종원

We have designed and constructed a pinhole camera system to monitor variations in the beam range during the course of proton beam therapy. The camera consists of a shielding enclosure made of lead plates with a pinhole aperture and a CsI(Tl) scintillation detector. The design of the camera was performed using a Monte Carlo program to optimize the shielding structure. The proton energy was assumed to be 50 MeV for empirical verification by using a proton beam and a water phantom at the proton-bea

SJR Q1Acta Paediatrica

BHR to methacholine is a frequent, but by no means universal, finding in young children with post-infectious BO, but is usually not accompanied by BHR to AMP.

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Dog-bite injuries are increasing in Korea, especially in teenagers and adults. A relative's or neighbour's dog may be more dangerous than a stranger's dog. Preventive strategies are needed to prevent dog-bite injuries in adults and children.

Bronchial responsiveness to methacholine and adenosine 5′-monophosphate in preschool children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia

SJR Q1Pediatric Pulmonology

Bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR) is a characteristic feature of asthma, but it is also frequently present in children and adults with chronic obstructive lung diseases. Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a chronic lung disease, most commonly developing after mechanical ventilation and oxygen therapy in premature infants. BHR is usually measured by bronchial challenges, using direct or indirect stimuli. The aim of this study was to evaluate BHR to direct and indirect stimuli in young children

권리담론의 세 차원: 개념분석, 정당화, 제도화
김도균

We can distinguish three dimensions of rights discourse. There is the analytical dimension which concerns the question of what it means to have a right, and there is the moral/political dimension concerning the question of what rights we should have. The last dimension of rights discourse deals with the question about the institutionalization of human rights into legal rights. It is no doubt that these three dimensions are closely related and the answers to them interdependent. In this essay I w

SJR Q1Telemedicine Journal and e-Health

BACKGROUND: Although a smartphone could be used for a urine reagent strip test, few studies have reported on the reliability of the test in a clinical setting. The objective of our study was to access the smartphone-based urine reagent strip test in the clinical emergency department (ED). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We developed a smartphone-based urine reagent strip reader for a rapid and accurate screening of leukocyte esterase (LE) and nitrite (NIT) in urine. The developed reader was evaluated wit
