About the Lab

Professor Eun-young Kim's research lab specializes in medical imaging and diagnostic radiology, with a focus on improving the accuracy of cancer detection and characterization using advanced cross-sectional imaging techniques such as multidetector CT, MRI, and contrast-enhanced mammography. The lab investigates the role of breast density changes, thyroid function within the normal range, and innovative image-guided interventions—such as marker-clip placement in axillary lymph nodes—in optimizing breast cancer diagnosis, staging, and treatment planning. A key emphasis is on leveraging imaging biomarkers to guide clinical decision-making and reduce unnecessary surgical interventions.

SJR Q1Korean Journal of RadiologyOA

The purpose of this article is to provide a current review of the spectrum of multidetector CT (MDCT) and MRI findings for a variety of cardiac neoplasms. In the diagnosis of cardiac tumors, the use of MDCT and MRI can help differentiate benign from malignant masses. Especially, the use of MDCT is advantageous in providing anatomical information and MRI is useful for tissue characterization of cardiac masses. Knowledge of the characteristic MRI findings of benign cardiac tumors or thrombi can be

SJR Q1Cancer

BACKGROUND: The risk of breast cancer related to changes in breast density over time, including its regression and persistence, remains controversial. The authors investigated the relationship between breast density and its changes over time with the development of breast cancer in premenopausal and postmenopausal women. METHODS: The current cohort study included 74,249 middle-aged Korean women (aged ≥35 years) who were free of breast cancer at baseline and who underwent repeated screening mammo

Serum concentration of thyroid hormones in abnormal and euthyroid ranges and breast cancer risk: A cohort study

SJR Q1International Journal of CancerOA

The impact of variations in serum thyroid hormone concentration within the euthyroid range on breast cancer risk remains unclear. We investigated the effect of serum thyrotropin (TSH) and thyroid hormone concentration on breast cancer risk. This cohort study involved 62,546 Korean women, aged ≥40 years, who were free of breast cancer at baseline and underwent health examination with determination of free thyroxine (FT4) and TSH. A parametric proportional hazard model was used to estimate the adj

SJR Q1World Journal of Surgery

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility of image-guided marker-clip placement in axillary lymph nodes (ALNs) for breast cancer upon initial presentation and to assess the reliability of this method with sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) for axillary restaging after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). METHODS: Between June 2015 and August 2016, a marker clip was placed at a clinically positive ALN under ultrasonography (US) guidance before initiation of NAC in 20 patients.

SJR Q3Acta Radiologica

The purpose of this article is to review the imaging features of thoracic epithelioid hemangioendotheliomas with pathologic correlation. The thoracic manifestation of epithelioid hemangioendotheliomas is one of three different CT patterns: multiple pulmonary nodules, multiple pulmonary reticulonodular opacities, or diffuse infiltrative pleural thickening. Without any evidence of histological malignancy, malignant features (multiplicity of pulmonary nodules, hepatic or bone involvement, lymphangi

Pancreatic Metastasis in a Child Suffering with Treated Stage 4 Neuroblastoma
Eun Young Kim, So-Young Yoo, Ji Hye Kim, Ki Woong Sung
SJR Q1Korean Journal of RadiologyOA

We present here a very rare case of metastatic relapse in the pancreas of a 4-year-old boy who had been treated for stage 4 neuroblastoma. Computed tomography showed multiple metastatic masses in the pancreas with secondary pancreatitis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of pancreatic metastasis in a child with neuroblastoma.

SJR Q3Acta Radiologica

BACKGROUND: incidental detection of solid renal masses has been increasing since the multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) scanner was introduced. PURPOSE: to evaluate the clinico-radio-pathologic features of a solitary solid renal mass at MDCT examination. MATERIAL AND METHODS: a total of 466 non-fatty solid renal masses in 466 patients undergoing nephrectomy were evaluated by MDCT examination. MDCT was performed before and after intravenous injection of contrast material. We obtained the in
