About the Lab
Professor Eunji Kim's research lab specializes in hematopathology and molecular oncology, with a focus on the genetic and immunological microenvironment of hematopoietic and lymphoid neoplasms. The lab investigates driver mutations such as BRAF in histiocytic and dendritic cell neoplasms, explores the role of immune checkpoint enzymes like IDO in Hodgkin lymphoma, and examines signaling pathways such as JAK2-STAT3 in cancer drug resistance. The lab also studies rare lymphomas, including plasmablastic lymphoma and EBV-associated neoplasms, with particular attention to their clinicopathologic and molecular features in Asian populations. Their work bridges diagnostic pathology with translational research, aiming to improve prognosis and therapeutic strategies for aggressive hematologic malignancies.

Development of metastasis in eyelid sebaceous gland carcinoma might be attributed to increased number of CSCs or acquisition of dedifferentiated phenotype. Our findings suggest that CSCs are involved in the disease progression of eyelid sebaceous gland carcinoma, and in particular, expression of ALDH1 is a predictor of a poor outcome.
Utilisation of the PI3K-PKB, MEK-ERK and mTOR-p70S6K signalling pathways in melanoma, as determined by phosphorylation of signalling components, varies widely across a series of cell lines, and does not directly reflect mutation of genes coding these components.
