Professor Gijeong Lee's research lab focuses on the intricate interactions between the host immune system, intestinal microbiota, and bacterial pathogens, particularly in the context of gut immunity and inflammatory diseases. The lab investigates how commensal and pathogenic bacteria shape the development of gut-associated lymphoid tissues (GALT) and influence B cell receptor diversification and antibody repertoire formation. Using animal models such as rabbits and mice, the lab explores the molecular mechanisms of bacterial virulence factors—especially the Bacteroides fragilis toxin (BFT)—in driving inflammation, epithelial barrier disruption, and colorectal pathologies. Additionally, the lab examines the dual role of mesenchymal stem cells in tumor progression and immune modulation, highlighting their complex impact on the tumor microenvironment.
