About the Lab
Professor Gwang-eon Choi's research lab specializes in retinal vascular diseases and ocular microcirculation, with a focus on optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) to assess capillary non-perfusion and its impact on macular edema recurrence in retinal vein occlusion. The lab also develops and validates animal models—particularly cynomolgus monkeys and minipigs—for preclinical evaluation of retinal degeneration and dry eye disease. Their work includes pharmacological interventions such as anti-VEGF and diquafosol to modulate ocular surface and retinal health, and they investigate anatomical variations influencing orbital fracture patterns. Our study demonstrated that the blowout fracture type distribution in Korea varied from the results of many other studies. Medial wall fracture is the most common among the 4 types, and anatomic variance, such as number of ethmoid air cell septa, could influence blowout fracture type, especially in medial wall fracture.

We aimed to develop an outer retinal degeneration pig model induced by temporary intravitreal loading of N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) during vitrectomy.
